Jessa Duggar Welcomes Baby No. 5, a Boy: ‘There Were So Many Emotions’

Jessa (Duggar) Seewald has expanded her family.

Former Count on star, 30, announced on Saturday that she and husband Ben Seewald welcomed their fifth child together.

In a photo shared on Jess’ Instagram, the mother of five can be seen holding her baby in her arms while sitting in a hospital bed. She looked happily at her newborn as she rested while still in her hospital gown.

“The baby is here and we couldn’t be more thankful!” she captioned the post, adding that the baby’s “full birth story” is available to watch on their YouTube channel.

Jessa noted that the birth wasn’t easy as she was in labor for 12 hours before being moved to a room and given an epidural, which she noted “worked great on one side” and was “kind of spotty on the other side page.”

She said they thought “things were going just fine” but the doctor told her the baby was still “quite high” and not “in the most ideal position” because the baby was “on the rear”.

She then decided to “turn off the epidural” and called her midwife, who came to the hospital and helped her “take a bunch of different birthing positions to help rotate the baby.” The reality star shared several photos of the midwife helping her move in various directions on the bed, which “happened for about 3 or 4 hours.”

She said the doctors had to re-apply the epidural, and around 3 a.m., after 21 hours of labor, she finally gave birth. The emotional moment was captured on video as Jessa broke down as the baby was placed in her arms. Her husband was seen wiping away her tears before kissing her forehead.

Friends and family of the couple in the delivery room asked if it was a boy or a girl and it was confirmed to be a boy.

“The sweetest moment [was] when they picked up the baby and put it on top of me,” Jessa said in the video. “Just holding him there, I think there was so much emotion in that moment [and] so many things you process. It’s been a year since we lost our last child and just an outpouring of emotions.”

The couple announced on social media in September that they were expecting their fifth child, after Jessa tragically suffered a miscarriage in 2022.

“After a terrible loss last year, we are so thankful to God for blessing us with a rainbow baby,” Jessa wrote on her Instagram Story at the time. The accompanying video shows a positive pregnancy test sitting on a bathroom counter.
