Jessica Alba Says Her Teen Daughters Did a 'Better' Job of Rewearing Her Old Dresses: 'True Story' (Exclusive)

Who wore it best?

Jessica Alba says her two teenage daughters — Honor, 16, and Haven, 13 — did a “better” job re-wearing the dresses she wore more than a decade ago when they attended the premiere of their mom’s Netflix movie Trigger warning in June.

Noting that she was “so thrilled” that Honor chose to wear her Prada dress to the London premiere Valentine’s Day 2010, and Haven wore her Dolce & Gabbana ensemble to a promotional appearance at San Diego Comic-Con Good luck Chuck In 2007, Alba told PEOPLE exclusively, “I like to reuse things and I like two or three uses of anything, especially a red carpet look.”

“It was my idea, because I didn’t want to go and buy them a dress for one night, you know?” the star continues how the nightwear came about. “I knew they were going to the screening Trigger warningand I said, ‘Would you wear these dresses? I chose them. I think they would look really cute on you, but I mean, if you don’t like them [it’s okay].’ ”

“It was really cute, and … then they were both like, ‘Yeah, okay, good. It’s cute. Yeah, I’ll wear it,'” adds Alba — who recently helped Instagram launch the new Teen Accounts feature . “I think they both thought they were wearing it better – which, by the way, they were. True story.”

In a recent interview with PEOPLE for the My Life in Pictures series, Alba admitted that knowing her daughter Honor had grown taller than her was a “tough pill to swallow.”

“You don’t really understand time until you watch a little person become a blob who can’t talk or do anything useful except look cute, and then they grow up to be people with opinions,” she explained. “And they tell you, ‘Oh no, Mom, you can’t plan my 16th birthday.’ What do you mean? I gave birth to you, this is my birthday too!”

Alba is also the mother of son Hayes (6), whom she shares with husband Cash Warren.
