Jigna Jitendra Vora was born in 1974 (49 years old as of 2023) from Ghatkopar, Mumbai. She studied LLB from DG Ruparel College, University of Mumbai. She also holds a Diploma in Mass Communication from KJ Somaiya Institute of Management, Mumbai. Velly Thevar’s interest in crime reporting was sparked by her faculty at KJ Somaiya and a well-known crime reporter working for the Times of India. In 1998, she got married and moved to Bharuch, Gujarat. In 2004, after she separated from her husband, she returned to her natal family in Ghatkopargarodiya Nagar with her four-year-old son. As a single mother raising her son alone, she decided to pursue a career in media.

After completing her formal education, she landed her first job as a court reporter at the Free Press Journal (FPJ) in November 2005; she worked there for 10 months. J. Day Murder

J Dey was murdered on June 11, 2011, in a shootout between unknown assailants at Hiranandani Gardens in Powai, Mumbai. The attacker was later identified as underworld killer Don Chotta Rajan. On November 25, 2011, Gigna, then deputy director of the Asian Age Bureau, was detained by the police on suspicion of involvement in this sensational murder case. Police claimed that Vohra provided Rajan with vital details about Dey, including his address and the registration number of his bike, to plan the murder. She was charged under various sections of the ICC, such as murder, criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidence, as well as the Arms Act. Investigating officer Himanshu Roy cited phone records between Rajan and Vora to file the murder charge against her. Police also claimed Voula’s professional rivalry was the reason for Day’s murder. However, the police had no strong evidence to implicate her. She is lodged in Byculla Women’s Prison in Mumbai. She spent nine months in jail. On July 27, 2012, the Special Court granted Jigna Vora bail because she was a single parent with a child to take care of. MCOCA Court Special Judge SM Modak also noted that she had no previous criminal record. In 2018, the Maharashtra Organized Crime Control Act (MCOCA) court convicted and acquitted Chotta Rajan and eight other accused involved in the case, while Vora due to lack of evidence and was acquitted.
