Jigna Vora is a former Indian crime reporter who made headlines when she was arrested in 2011 for her alleged role in the murder of prominent journalist Jyotirmoy Dey, fondly known as J Dey. She was acquitted in 2018. She has worked in various media outlets including Free Press Magazine, Mid-day, Mumbai Mirror and The Asian Age. Jigna Jitendra Vora was born in 1974 (49 years old as of 2023) from Ghatkopar, Mumbai. She studied LLB from DG Ruparel College, University of Mumbai. She also holds a Diploma in Mass Communication from KJ Somaiya Institute of Management, Mumbai. Velly Thevar’s interest in crime reporting was sparked by her faculty at KJ Somaiya and a well-known crime reporter working for the Times of India. In 1998, she got married and moved to Bharuch, Gujarat. In 2004, after she separated from her husband, she returned to her natal family in Ghatkopargarodiya Nagar with her four-year-old son. As a single mother raising her son alone, she decided to pursue a career in media.

After completing her formal education, she landed her first job as a court reporter at the Free Press Journal (FPJ) in November 2005; she worked there for 10 months. Her first assignment was to cover the gangster Abu Salem case at the TADA court housed inside Arthur Road Jail. She made a name for herself in crime reporting over the next six years, during which time she rose from a rookie reporter to deputy director of a major English-language newspaper. Jigna joined Mumbai Mirror in 2006 as a court reporter and her assigned duty station was the courts in Kala Ghoda, Mumbai. She reported her first underworld story in December 2005, when Sujata Nikalje, wife of feared gangster Chhota Rajan, was arrested for making extortion threats against a builder under MCOCA. Thereafter, Vora began working for Mid Day as a senior court reporter. She worked with J Dey at noon. Her big story about the controversial encounter with expert Pradeep Sharma caused a stir across the country. In May 2008, she joined The Asian Age, the publishing arm of Deccan Chronicle. As a journalist, she covered Fahmeeda (bomb blast accused), Maria Susairaj (accused in the sensational Neeraj Grover murder case) , Jaya Chheda (accused of murdering her husband) and various other defendants. She earned praise for a series of reports on the killing of Tilak Nagar gangster Farid Tanasha, articles on the activities of right-wing terror groups in Gujarat and the Andheri land scam centered on a landlord who was declared dead . Despite being bouncing around all the time, there were several times. In 2011, she served as deputy director of the Asian Age Bureau before being arrested for alleged involvement in the murder of J Dey. J. Day Murder
J Dey was murdered on June 11, 2011, in a shootout between unknown assailants at Hiranandani Gardens in Powai, Mumbai. The attacker was later identified as underworld killer Don Chotta Rajan. On November 25, 2011, Gigna, then deputy director of the Asian Age Bureau, was detained by the police on suspicion of involvement in this sensational murder case. Police claimed that Vohra provided Rajan with vital details about Dey, including his address and the registration number of his bike, to plan the murder. She was charged under various sections of the ICC, such as murder, criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidence, as well as the Arms Act. Investigating officer Himanshu Roy cited phone records between Rajan and Vora to file the murder charge against her. Police also claimed Voula’s professional rivalry was the reason for Day’s murder. However, the police had no strong evidence to implicate her. She is lodged in Byculla Women’s Prison in Mumbai. She spent nine months in jail. On July 27, 2012, the Special Court granted Jigna Vora bail because she was a single parent with a child to take care of. MCOCA Court Special Judge SM Modak also noted that she had no previous criminal record. In 2018, the Maharashtra Organized Crime Control Act (MCOCA) court convicted and acquitted Chotta Rajan and eight other accused involved in the case, while Vora due to lack of evidence and was acquitted.

- On May 11, 2018, Himanshu Roy, who was investigating the J Dey murder case, shot himself at his residence. He reportedly suffered from cancer for a long time. First, he was diagnosed with ankle cancer in 2015, which later spread to his brain and sent him into depression. At the time of his death, he had been serving with the Maharashtra ADGP (Agency).
- There were many rumors surrounding Gigner before she was arrested. In August 2011, a journalist told Vora that there were rumors that she had an affair with Dey and that he got her pregnant and refused to accept her and the child.
