Jim McElwain, coach at Central Michigan University, has been married to his wife, Karen McElwain, for more than 36 years. The couple met in college and married in 1998 after dating for many years. Their marriage produced three beautiful children: two girls and one boy. Furthermore, Karen McElwain was Jim’s most supportive wife and active participant throughout his career. Jim McElwain, American football coach at Central Michigan University, was born in Missoula, Montana, in 1962.
He began his football career as a standout linebacker at Sentinel High School, receiving all-state honors. He then played at Eastern Washington from 1980 to 1983. The 2015 SEC Coach of the Year served as an offensive coordinator, running back, wide receiver and associate head coach at several universities, including Montana, Louisville and Alabama. In 2012, Colorado State University named him the head coach. After his career at Colorado, the two-time SEC East champion joined Florida. In 2018, the two-time MAC West Division champion joined Michigan as the wide receivers coach before becoming the head coach in 2019.

Jim McElwain originally met his wife at Eastern Washington University. The couple first met when Jim was a graduate assistant at Eastern Washington University. After four years of dating, the couple decided to get married in 1988. Jim is believed to have handed his wife Karen an article about the lives of coaches’ spouses before proposing. Since then, the couple has been happily married and the delighted parents of three children: a boy, Jerret McElwain, and two daughters, Elizabeth and Johanna McElwain. Karen was very supportive of Jim and his profession. In one of the conversations, Jim talks about how his wife has been a key part of his career.
Jim said: “I’m only successful because of her. She was with me the whole way. She is concerned about the children we train, as well as the individuals in those families who participate in our organization, and works hard to keep everyone together.” Karen is also popularly known as “Mama Mac”, as her priority is to provide motherly support to the team.

Michigan coach Jim McElwain responds to a viral image, which appears to show Michigan football staff member Connor Stallions in Chippewas coaching gear on the sideline during a game against Michigan State. The NCAA is now investigating Stallion’s suspicions of off-campus scouting and sign stealing.
McElwain confirmed the university’s investigation but did not identify Stalions, calling him “a guy who steals signs.” He said: “Our team is doing everything they can to get to the bottom of this. I absolutely do not condone it in any form. I know his name was not on any of the passes that were distributed. We’ll just keep following him. “And try to figure it out.”
