Robert Ross is an American entrepreneur and co-founder of the software development company Lume (YC W23). He is best known for being the boyfriend of Phoebe Gates, the youngest daughter of Microsoft co-founder and one of the world’s richest men, Bill Gates.

In June 2018, Robert Ross joined ThoughtSpot, a business intelligence company in Palo Alto, California, as a software engineering intern. During his internship, he worked in the natural language processing team. After a four-month internship, Ross started working at the company as a software engineer. As part of his work, Ross implemented linguistic sentiment heuristics to better infer natural language hypotheses and resolve column ambiguities. He exited the company in March 2019. Three months later, Robert joined Google Cloud Privacy & Security in Greater New York City as a software engineering intern. Subsequently, he conducted a two-month summer analyst internship in quantitative investment at BlackRock, an American multinational investment company. While at Stanford University, Robert Ross was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity and held positions such as Director of Recruitment, Director of Diversity and Inclusion, and University President. At Stanford, he also served as a member of the Society of Black Scientists and Engineers from 2018 to 2022. Robert served as class president at Stanford University for three years (April 2019 to June 2022). He also served as financial officer and department leader. In June 2021, he joined Google as a deputy product manager intern and helped Google launch several next-generation products.
