Jimmie Fails is an American actor and writer who rose to fame with the semi-autobiographical film The Last Black Man in San Francisco (2019), in which he played a fictionalized version of himself, Jimmie Fails.

Jimmie Fells was born on Thursday, November 10, 1994, in San Francisco, California (age 26 in 2020). During his childhood, Fells lived with his family in a three-story Victorian-style house in the Fillmore District, a historic district in San Francisco. Jimmie Fells’ grandfather was a pastor at a Baptist church. Later, after his grandfather passed away, Jimmie and his family were evicted from their house because they could no longer afford the expenses and upkeep of the house. After being evicted, Jimmie’s family scattered across the country and he spent his childhood in various foster care and housing projects. In an interview, he said,
This was the only place my family could be together and live together… When we lost our house, it was like we never had it again.”
Jimmie Fails attended Archbishop Riordan High School in San Francisco, California.

- Jimmie Fails met Joe Talbot, co-writer and director of the film The Last Black Man in San Francisco (2019), in a park when he was a teenager. Jimmie shared his true story with Joe, which later became the inspiration for the film. They first shot a concept trailer, a five-minute clip that showed the outline of the storyline, and then they launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for the film. After that, they spent five consecutive years to complete the film.
