Jimmy Iovine Sued Over Sexual Misconduct Under NY State Adult Survivors Act

Iovine was charged with assault and battery in New York

Jimmy Iovine has been accused of sexual assault.

A woman identified only as Jane Doe accused the music executive of sexual harassment and assault in New York Supreme Court on Wednesday. In documents obtained by PEOPLE, the woman claims Lovine, 70, committed crimes including “assault and battery.”

She is seeking damages for being “sexually assaulted, forcibly touched and subjected to sexual harassment and retaliation in violation of anti-discrimination laws in or around August 2007.”

Her case was brought under the Adult Survivors Act, which allows victims of sexual assault who were 18 or older at the time of the abuse a one-year period to file a lawsuit against the abuser and, if applicable, the institution that sheltered them, no matter how long ago crime happened, according to MSNBC.

Wednesday was the last day to submit.

Doe’s legal documents state that her amount of relief will be determined at trial for, but not limited to, physical injuries, economic and compensatory damages, punitive damages and attorneys’ fees and costs.

The trial will take place in New York County, according to the filing. The subpoena was signed by attorneys Kevin Mintzer and Doug Wigdor.

PEOPLE reached out to Iovine’s reps for comment and did not immediately respond. An unnamed spokesperson spoke to Diversity in respect of the claim.

“We are quite shocked and confused by this alleged claim,” a spokesperson for Iovine said in a statement to the news outlet. “This investigation is the first we have heard of this matter. No one has ever filed a lawsuit like this against Jimmy Iovine, nor have we been contacted or made aware of any complaint from anyone, including this unknown plaintiff to date.”

In addition to his work at Interscope, Iovine is widely known for co-founding Beats Electronics with Dr. Dre.

Iovine’s attorney, Wigdor, is also the attorney for Casandra Ventura, known professionally as Cassie. On Nov. 16, the “Me & U” singer filed a bombshell lawsuit against ex-boyfriend Sean “Diddy” Combs, claiming the Bad Boy founder raped her and sold her for sexual favors during 10 years of abuse.

Her lawsuit, which also cited New York’s Adult Survivors Act, accused him of exhibiting “uncontrollable rage” and said he “frequently savagely beat Ms. Ventura,” violence she claims was witnessed by many people the music mogul employed.

Ventura also claimed that Combs forced her to associate with sex workers for what he called “freak offs” or “FOs,” and that the encounters “always” involved ecstasy, cocaine, GHB, ketamine, marijuana, and alcohol.

In a statement to PEOPLE, Combs’ attorney Ben Brafman denied the allegations, which he called “offensive and outrageous.”

“Mr. Combs vehemently denies these offensive and outrageous allegations. Ms. Ventura’s request for $30 million, under the threat of writing a damaging book about their relationship, was unequivocally rejected as blatant blackmail,” Brafman said. “Despite retracting her initial threat, Ms. Ventura has now resorted to filing a lawsuit riddled with baseless and outrageous lies, with the goal of defaming Mr. Combs and seeking payment.”

The next day, the lawsuit was “amicably” settled.
