Jimmy Kimmel Slams ‘Reckless’ Aaron Rodgers, Threatens to Sue Him Over Claims of Ties to Jeffrey Epstein

Jimmy Kimmel threatens to take Aaron Rodgers to court after the athlete’s claims that the talk show host had ties to Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced financier who died by suicide while awaiting trial on federal conspiracy and sex trafficking charges

Rodgers, 40, appeared on the Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, where Rodgers and the hosts began a discussion about the imminent release of a list containing the names of high-profile people rumored to be connected to Epstein.

“A lot of people, including Jimmy Kimmel, are hoping it doesn’t come out,” the New York Jets quarterback said in a clip that has become widely shared on social media.

After learning of the clip, Kimmel posted his response on X (formerly known as Twitter).

“Darling [Aa–hole]: for the record, I have not met, flown, visited, or had any contact with Epstein, nor will you find my name on any ‘list’ other than blatantly fake nonsense that soft-brained lunatics like you can’t tell from reality. Your thoughtless words have put my family in danger. Keep it up and we will continue to argue the facts in court. @AaronRodgers12,” the Jimmy Kimmel Live! host chirped.

His tweet included a clip of the interview and came just hours after Rodgers’ words went viral.

PEOPLE reached out to reps for both Kimmel and Rodgers for comment, but they did not immediately respond. Disney is the parent company of ABC, which broadcasts Jimmy Kimmel Live and ESPN, which broadcasts The Pat McAfee Show.

U.S. District Judge Loretta Preska will soon release more than 200 names believed to be connected to a registered sex offender who died by suicide after hanging himself in a prison cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York in August 2019, according to multiple sources.

ABC News said Preska ordered the unsealing to begin after Jan. 1.

The list will reportedly include former employees of Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell or people who flew on his planes, such as Britain’s Prince Andrew and former President Bill Clinton, the paper said.

“I’ll tell you what, if that list comes out, I’m definitely going to pop some kind of bottle,” Rodgers continued in the interview.

McAfee, 36, then reminded his viewers that the football star’s comments were seemingly in response to a joke made by Kimmel on the air in March about the previous one McAfee segment Rodgers appeared on.

Kimmel describes the segment as “Green Bay Wack Packer Aaron Rodgers” and “hatters” discussing aliens, UFOs and Epstein. After the video ended, Kimmel said, “Maybe it’s time to revisit that concussion protocol, Aaron.”

In June 2022, Maxwell, Epstein’s associate and ex-girlfriend (62), was sentenced to 20 years in prison for sex trafficking.

She was previously found guilty of recruiting, luring and transporting minors to engage in unlawful sexual acts with Epstein. Some of the victims were as young as 14 years old.

“Ghislaine was quite the enforcer,” Epstein survivor Sarah Ransome told PEOPLE in 2021. “She was the enforcer. She was the groomer. She controlled everything.”
