Joe Alwyn is speaking out about his breakup with Taylor Swift for the first time.
In an interview with Sunday Times style published on Saturday, June 15 Kinds of kindness the actor, 33, said his time with the pop star, 34, was “long, loving” and “totally dedicated”.
When asked if he had heard Swift’s latest album, Department for tortured poets — which fans believe may have been composed of material inspired by the former couple’s breakup — Alwyn said: “Thinking about what I was going to say, I would think and hope that anyone and everyone can empathize. … This is not a direct answer to your question, but just a reflection on what I want to talk about.”
He continued: “I hope that anyone and everyone can empathize and understand the difficulties that come with the end of a long, loving, fully committed relationship of over six and a half years.”
“It’s difficult to manage,” Alwyn added.

PEOPLE confirmed that Swift and Alwyn split in April 2023 after six years of dating, around the same time the pop superstar kicked off her still-running Eras tour.
A source said at the time that the split was largely due to “differences in their personalities” that became “harder to ignore.”
Thinking more about his break up, Alwyn said times, “What’s unusual and abnormal about this situation is that, a week later, it’s suddenly in the public domain and the outside world is able to get involved.”
“So you have something very real suddenly thrown into a very unreal space: tabloids, social media, the press, where it’s then dissected, speculated upon, drawn out of shape beyond recognition,” he continued. “And the truth is that last point, there will always be a gap between what is known and what is said. I have come to terms with that.”
Adding that he and Swift had “mutually” decided to “keep the more private details of our relationship private,” Alwyn said: “It’s never been something to commodify and I see no reason to change that now.”

Right now, Alwyn said he’s “doing really well,” he said times“I feel fortunate to be in a really great place in my life, professionally and personally.”
However, he would not discuss with the publication whether he is back in a relationship or still in touch with Swift.
“I’m sure you can appreciate, given the level of noise and scrutiny of my past relationship, why I wouldn’t want to open the door to that sort of thing right now,” he said.
After her split from Alwyn, Swift dated Kansas City Chiefs football player Travis Kelce.
