Joey King Defies a Futuristic Society's Mandatory Cosmetic Surgery in Uglies Trailer

Joey King breaks the norms of beauty in a dystopian film Rugobes.

Based on the 2005 young adult novel by Scott Westerfeld. Rugobes stars King as Tally, who lives in a “futuristic world that mandates cosmetic surgery” for anyone after turning 16, according to the synopsis.

“Tally can’t wait for her turn to join the rest of the party. But when her friend runs away, Tally embarks on a journey to save her that undoes everything she thought she wanted.”

Author Westerfeld, also an executive producer, was heavily involved in the adaptation. McG told Tudum, “I talked to Scott extensively about the book and I wanted to make sure we got it right. He’s been such a wonderful collaborator every step of the way. So we were happy to have Scott on board.”
