Stay saddled, Yellowstone fans!
Paramount announced on May 5 that the beloved Kevin Costner-starring neo-western is coming to an end after its fifth season — however, its respective streamer shared some exciting details regarding the future of the Dutton family.
Remaining episodes of the first half Yellowstone season 5 became available to stream on Peacock on May 25, with the second half set to air in November 2024 after being delayed by a year due to the writers’ strike.
Although this will mark the end of the original series,Yellowstone will live on thanks to the various spinoffs of the franchise created by Taylor Sheridan. Spinoffs already announced include: in 1883 and in 1923while two new series have been commissioned: a prequel titled 1944 and a Michelle Pfeiffer-led series titled Madison (previously announced as in 2024).
The latter was previously announced, a sequel to the series rumored to be a Matthew McConaughey-led spinoff. It is slated to debut on the Paramount Network and Paramount+ in December (unlike the original Yellowstone series, which is available to stream exclusively on Peacock.)
“Within five years, we have grown Yellowstone from a hit US cable show with five million viewers to a global hit franchise with more than 100 million fans worldwide and multiple expansions — and we’re just getting started,” said Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of Showtime and MTV Entertainment Studios, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Telling the story of the origin of the Dutton family shown on Yellowstone, in 1883 follows their 19th-century ancestors James and Margaret Dutton as they embark on their wild journey west from Texas to Montana across the Great Plains. Lawless lands, bloody shootouts, danger and dust (a lot of it) are promised in each of the nine (and counting) episodes.
The star-studded cast is assembled with Tim McGraw and Faith Hill in the lead roles. They are joined by award-winning Sam Elliot and Eric Nelsen, as well as Isabel May, LaMonica Garrett, Audie Rick, Emma Malouff, Dawn Olivieri, Marc Rissmann, Anna Fiamora, James Landry Hébert, Alex Fine, Gratiela Brancusi, Nichole Galicia, Stephanie Nur, Amanda Jaros, Noah Le Gros and Martin Sensmeier.
Keep an eye out for the second episode as Tom Hanks makes a cameo, playing a general named George Meade in a flashback sequence. in 1883 consisted of ten episodes and ended on February 27, 2022.
Everything you need to know about ‘Yellowstone’ prequel ‘1883’
The first two episodes premiered in December 2021 on the Paramount Network, but the rest of the series was exclusive to its streamer, Paramount+ (unlike the entire series Yellowstone which aired on Paramount).
But now, the whole season in 1883 will air on the Paramount Network beginning June 18 at 8:00 PM ET/PT. The special will include extended featurettes at the end of each episode.
When ViacomCBS’s chief programming officer teased more episodes after the finale, fans speculated whether that meant an extension of the first season or whether a season 2 was in the works. It turns out that none!
Instead of that, Yellowstone the spinoff will get its own offshoot called Attorneys at Law: Bass Reeves. (However, this is still not explicitly mentioned in 1883 confirmed for season 2.)
Attorneys at Law: Bass Reeves
in 1883 will join Sheridan’s previously announced limited series, Bas Reevesto form another spinoff, called Attorneys at Law: Bass Reeves. (It was originally called 1883: The Bass Reeves Storybut got a title change in April.)
The upcoming series is described as an anthology series with future installments following other iconic cops who have influenced history in future seasons, according to Diversity.
Logline for Bas Reeves season states that it will “bring to life the legendary lawman of the Wild West. Known as the greatest frontier hero in American history, Reeves worked in the post-Reconstruction era as a federal peace officer in the Indian Territory, capturing more than 3,000 of the nation’s most dangerous criminals without ever being wounded .”
It will star two-time Emmy nominee David Oyelowo in the lead role of Bass Reeves. The actor previously expressed his excitement to be a part of the series and work alongside Sheridan in an interview with Deadline, saying, “The reality is, he’s one of the best storytellers on the planet.”
He added: “My thing is we have to tell a story worthy of that history but worthy of a global audience and he’s one of those rare guys, and I’ve worked with a few of them, and he’s one of the few guys who can really do that.” It’s big. thing.
Oyelow will be joined by actor Dennis Quaid, who plays Deputy US Marshal Sherrill Lynn in the upcoming spinoff, which is currently in production in his home state.

The main roles are played by Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford in 1923 (original name in 1932) which premiered on December 8, 2022 on the Paramount Network and its streamer in a special simulcast event. They play husband and wife, matriarch Cara Dutton and patriarch Jacob Dutton.
The series chronologically follows the events that took place in in 1883 (hence the title) – which saw the Duttons on a perilous journey to Montana. It follows a couple, along with their children, as they run a family farm in the aforementioned state while grappling with the challenges of the early 20th century, which include pandemics, historic drought, the end of Prohibition, and the Great Depression.
Teaser — which dropped during the Season 5 premiere Yellowstone in November 2022 — gave a glimpse into the chaos of the time, depicting numerous battles on land and on horseback. The central characters enter the action, with a shot of Mirren’s Cara, injured and pointing a gun at someone, and Ford’s Jacob looking desperately to the side while pointing a gun off-camera.
Ford told reporters in December that the formation of the project was what ultimately drew him to the role. “The writing and ambition of the work, which is evident from the scope and scale, [drew me to the role,]” he explained. “And the precision of his language and dialogue, and character.”

A spinoff directed by Matthew McConaughey
Matthew McConaughey was reportedly in talks to star in the Yellowstone spinoff in February as Costner considered leaving the show to focus on directing and starring in an upcoming western Horizonaccording to Deadline.
At the time, ViacomCBS president Chris McCarthy left details up in the air regarding the McConaughey rumors. However, a Paramount spokesperson said that “Matthew McConaughey is a phenomenal talent that we would love to partner with.”
As of March 28, President McCarthy confirmed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that the rumored McConaughey-led spinoff of the popular Paramount+ series is moving forward — regardless of whether star Costner returns to Yellowstone.
Although McCarthy could not share any new details about upcoming projects, he said THR that the franchise “wouldn’t be what it is today without Kevin and we hope it stays that way for a long time.”

On May 5, Paramount announced that its streamer had ordered another installment of the Taylor Sheridan-created franchise; however, it is not specified if it will be the one starring McConaughey.
Although untitled, the upcoming spinoff reportedly has one Yellowstone in your name. It is slated to air on Paramount+, making it the first series in the franchise to Yellowstone to be released on Paramount’s streamer in its own name.
On November 2, Paramount Network announced that the spinoff series had been tentatively titled in 2024. The working title implies that the sequel will take place in the present and air after the end of the main series.
“Exploring the Dutton family dynasty is expected to continue with new characters and locations, as well as some existing characters,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Another prequel, 1944, was announced on November 2, which is said to follow in the footsteps of in 1883 and in 1923. However, McCarthy said details about the series are “scarce at the moment,” including a “working” title.
