Samantha Cope has spoken out for the first time since her divorce from Joey Lawrence.
On Saturday, August 24, the 37-year-old actress shared her first Instagram post following the news that she and Melissa & Joey actor, 48, split two years after they got married.
“My amazing friend recently told me ‘don’t be afraid of tears. Let them flow. Because every tear is God gently draining the pain and destruction from your heart to make room for new beautiful feelings to come in,’ she began the caption of her post.
“She also reminded me, ‘the more you cry, the less you piss,'” Cope added jokingly. “Well, let them flow. You got this. 🩵🙏🏻.”
Along with her caption, Cope included a video composed of a series of clips that highlighted recent good times, including one of her and her daughter, Dylan Rose, 1, in a car, and another of the mother-daughter pair on a lakeside trip. She also included moments of them dancing around their house, going out for ice cream and having lunch together.

Cope also shared a look at the more emotional moments she’s had over the past few weeks, including clips where she can be seen shedding tears in her car and outdoors.
“Look at you, look at how far you’ve come,” the voice in the video said. “You faced your trauma, and you came out on the other side. And I’m sorry for being a little emotional. But there were times when I was really worried about you, miss. But look at yourself today. I’m so proud of you. You are a survivor baby.”

PEOPLE confirmed Wednesday, Aug. 20, that Lawrence and Cope — who met on the set of the Lifetime My husband’s secret brother 2021, before tying the knot in May 2022 — they split after two years of marriage.
Following the news, a source close to the former couple revealed that the couple went their separate ways after Lawrence started a relationship with Melina Alves, a writer and actress in his upcoming film, For Christmas.
“Joey met Melina Alves on the set of their movie, where she was the producer,” claims the source. “Then he love bombed her just like he love bombed Samantha. He continued to date Melina even after Samantha found out and confronted him.”

When Cope “wanted to go to counseling,” the source claims, Lawrence “tricked their counselor” and “prepared for dates with Melina while Sam looked on, rolling his eyes.”
Lawrence, Cope, Alves did not respond to recent requests for comment from PEOPLE.
According to Lawrence and Cope’s divorce filing, obtained by PEOPLE, the actress cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their split and filed on Aug. 13 — two months after the June 7 split date.
She asked to block the court’s ability to award spousal support to either party and seek full physical custody of their daughter, Dylan, while allowing discretionary visitation with Lawrence.
