Joey McIntyre and his wife Barrett McIntyre aren’t afraid to embrace a sense of whimsy in decorating their Los Angeles home.
The former member of New Kids on the Block and Barrett have been married since 2003 and have three children: sons Griffin Thomas (15) and Rhys Edward (13) and daughter Kira Katherine (12). In 2020, they moved from New York to a townhouse in a 1939 French Normandy style house in the Hancock neighborhood of LA.
“We’re East Coast people. We love older houses and we love this neighborhood,” Barrett said Architectural Digest when she and her husband recently welcomed the outlet into their home for a tour.

The couple also like to see their joyful spirit represented in the style of their home. That’s why designers Staver Gray and Christie Ward of Ward + Gray incorporated so many eclectic storybook elements into the family home.
From the artwork with the word “happy” written on electrical wires hanging above the breakfast nook to the pink felt pool table that sits in front of the window in their family room, Joey and Barrett’s home is bright and full of unexpected but personal touches.

One of the most interesting spaces belongs to Joey. The singer and actor’s office-turned-music room has pine walls with shelves piled high with books, speakers and memorabilia.
“We wanted to keep it a wild space where he can be himself,” Ward said. – We didn’t want to overly stylize it.
While Joey’s room has a rustic living vibe, the rest of the home is full of color, pattern and cherished family heirlooms like the “Stay the Same” singer’s vintage piano, which sits in the family room. For Joey, home was a place for him and his family to grow.
“We totally pinch each other every day,” Joey said. “I’ve felt a lot of growth here in a lot of ways — and we’re thrilled.”

Another place where the couple’s whimsical sensitivity can be felt is their solarium. The room, which is already full of natural light, is further brightened by white walls and sage green accents. The choice of colors gives the room a vintage feel, while also allowing it to be a welcoming place for family gatherings.

In many ways, this sums up the overall feel of the McIntyres’ LA home: a blend of old and new to create a space as bright and happy as the family that lives in it.
