The creator focuses on Joshua and Alphie’s relationship as he seeks to better understand the source of the conflict. Alphie, meanwhile, has powers that many of the other “simulators” seen in the film don’t, making her crucial to ending the war on both sides.

“I didn’t know how it was going to turn out, chemistry-wise, to be honest,” Washington says in a clip of a close collaboration with the child actor. “But I know she’s fearless and you can’t make her laugh cheaply.”

“You have to earn every laugh you get from her, and I feel like you know you’re good when she starts hitting you and pinching you, things like that,” he said. “Kick you and whatever. That’s when I knew we were on the right track.”

The creator arrives digitally on Tuesday, November 14. The film will be available for purchase in 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray and DVD on Tuesday, December 12.
