John Janssen Sues Ex Shannon Beador for $75K She Allegedly Borrowed for Facelift (Exclusive)

Shannon Storm Beador’s relationship with John Janssen costs more than just pain.

On Wednesday, The Real Housewives of Orange County star’s ex-boyfriend filed a lawsuit in Orange County Superior Court against her for breach or oral contract and promissory note fraud, among other things, to recover $75,000 he claims she failed to return to him.

In the complaint obtained by PEOPLE, Janssen, 61, alleges that Beador, 59, approached him for financial support in early 2022, borrowing $40,000 via wire transfer on Jan. 23, 2022, for a facelift procedure. Then on May 20, 2023, he gave her another $35,000 by personal check.

In both cases, Janssen claims in the documents, Beador agreed to repay the loan with interest. But despite multiple requests in 2023 and 2024, Janseen claims she has yet to do so.

Janssen is seeking the full amount, plus accrued interest, costs and reasonable attorneys’ fees.

Beador sent the following statement to PEOPLE on Friday in response to Janssen’s lawsuit:

“I am shocked and disappointed that John has filed suit. My attorney is in constant communication with his attorney. I agreed to pay John what he wanted because I knew the attorney’s fees would exceed the amount sought, but more importantly eliminate the negative emotional components that they are coming with a lawsuit. It is important that I continue to focus on the positive aspects of my life and move forward,” the statement read.

“John declined the offer because he refused to sign a mutual non-disparagement agreement. I was hoping that if I complied with his baseless request, we could at least use this as an opportunity to completely close this chapter in my life,” they said. concluded.

The suit will surprise you RHOC fans, who have heard through Beador in the past that Janssen was financially dependent on her during their time together.

She also said, according to Janssen’s counsel, that the money was a “gift” — something her ex disputes and allegedly has evidence to the contrary.

“Mrs. Beadora’s defense that Mr. Janssen paid her $75,000 as a ‘gift’ is completely preposterous, as their emails and text messages will show,” Edson K. McClellan, Rutan & Tucker LLP, tells PEOPLE. “MR. Janssen is saddened that Ms. Beador’s unwillingness to repay the loans has led to the filing of this lawsuit.”

Janssen and Beador were in a relationship for three and a half years. He ended their romance in November 2022, a week after filming the 17th season of the hit Bravo series. The two remained friends but stopped talking in late September, shortly after she was arrested for DUI.

He has since moved on, finding love with Beadora’s now co-star Alexis Bellino (47). The two met through mutual friends in November 2023. PEOPLE confirmed that the two were dating that December, sharing an exclusive photo of them posing hand-in-hand.

That same month, Beador criticized Janssen in the press for being in a relationship with Bellina, telling E! News in December that she was “hurt” and still trying to figure out “how to process” their romance after Janssen told her he no longer wanted to be in the public eye.

But Janssen insists his romance with Bellina is not about fame. “I’ve been accused of wanting to be in front of the camera, but you’ll have to watch the show and see if that’s true,” he told PEOPLE earlier this month at the DIRECTV Streaming with the Stars Oscars viewing party, where he and Bellino made their red carpet debut as a couple .

“You won’t really see him,” Bellino said. “We’re focused on each other and our future, not the show. And we couldn’t be happier or more in love.”
