Kate Middleton included a poignant tribute to those diagnosed with cancer in her recent video post focusing on her own diagnosis of the disease.
In a video message released on Friday, the Princess of Wales, 42, revealed that she has cancer and is undergoing treatment. The royal received the diagnosis following abdominal surgery in January, after post-operative tests “revealed that cancer was present”. Kate is now undergoing preventive chemotherapy.
In the emotional clip, which was filmed earlier this week and shows Princess Kate sitting on a bench in the gardens outside Windsor Castle, a row of yellow daffodils can be seen blooming from a bush in the background behind her.
The daffodil is a symbol used by cancer organizations around the world to give hope to those battling cancer. Known to bloom in spring, the flower is perfectly chosen as it signals rebirth and new beginnings. It is also often assimilated to resilience and security, as it returns at the same time each year.

Speaking about her diagnosis on Friday, Princess Kate began her video by thanking well-wishers for their “wonderful messages of support” amid what she described as an “incredibly difficult few months for our whole family”. She said husband Prince William was by her side and was “a great source of comfort and security.”
The princess said the diagnosis was a “huge shock” and that she and William, 41, were “doing everything they can to process and resolve this privately for the sake of our young family.”
“As you can imagine, this took a while. I needed time to recover from major surgery to start my treatment,” she continued, adding that their children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis , 5, we received the diagnosis before the public announcement.
The Princess of Wales concluded the video by paying tribute to those battling cancer. “At this time, I am also thinking of all those whose lives have been touched by cancer. To all who are dealing with this disease, in whatever form, please do not lose faith or hope. You are not alone.” she said.
