Cause of death of Jorge Bacardi

On September 23, 2020, Jorge Bacardi died suddenly at his home in the gated community of Lyford Cay in the Bahamas. He was 76 years old when he died. Leslie Bacardí, Jorge’s wife, and Carmen, his sister, are still alive.

Joaquín and Alberto, his brothers, had already left. The Bacardi CEO admitted that years after his lung transplant, his lung capacity was tested at 128% and he was still able to participate in outdoor activities.

He thanked the person who regularly saved his life. Eric and Grace Gregory, Jorge’s acquaintances, are the parents of Christopher Gregory. Jorge sent them photos of himself “with Chris” doing things like fishing that the young man’s lungs made possible. Jorge’s new life was even reflected in his obituary written by Christopher.

The Mayo Clinic Gabriel Care Home honors Christopher and reminds us of the extraordinary challenges that Jorge Bacardí overcame. The nursing home continues to provide comfortable accommodations for patients and their caregivers while they undergo cancer treatment or organ transplantation.

Minor facts about Jorge Bacardi

Jorge persevered despite his heavy lungs and even lived into his 40s, which was considered incredibly unusual by the medical establishment. The disease that was initially believed to be Jorge’s problem, however, was actually a congenital disorder known as primary ciliary dyskinesia, which was only diagnosed in the late 1990s. As he had no other options and his condition was deteriorating, Jorge requested a lung transplant.

Due to the unexpected death of organ donor Christopher Mark Gregory, who died at the age of 19 from a brain aneurysm, Jorge received a pair of compatible lungs. As a result, Jorge underwent a 7-hour double lung transplant at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville on March 27, 2008, after his lungs had been unhealthy for 64 years. The operation was successful and Jorge was able to breathe with healthy lungs for the first time.
