Josh Brolin Praises Robert Downey Jr.’s Sobriety Journey After Reuniting at Broadway Show: ‘Love You, Pal’

The Dina: The second part actor, 56, shared a message of support on Instagram on Friday, October 18, after seeing his ex Avengers: Endgame Costar’s latest Broadway role at the Vivian Beaumont Theater in New York.

The series, which runs through Nov. 24, stars Downey, 59, as writer Jacob McNeal, who “has an estranged son, a new novel, old axes to grind and an unhealthy fascination with artificial intelligence,” according to the synopsis.

And as Brolin wrote on Instagram, the selfie featuring Downey and a few other friends from the industry featured “a great [cast] led by our great @robertdowneyjr (who was stunning).”

“Thank you, Downey, for continuing to find soul-challenging avenues of sobriety,” Brolin wrote. “You are the pinnacle of the power of an example of how to ultimately live the best of what this life has to offer. I love you, my friend. 💎💎💎.”

In the photo shared by Brolin, the two actors are smiling side by side as they stand next to video game designer Donald Mustard and directors Anthony Russo and Joseph Russo.

The couple last worked on Avengers: Endgame in 2019 and have shared the screen on a total of three films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including 2018’s Infinity War and in 2015 Age of Ultron.

Downey made his debut in the Lincoln Center Theater production of Pulitzer Prize winner Ayad Akhtar on September 30. Since then, many famous faces have praised him. Johnny Depp greeted his friend on Instagram on Oct. 3, calling Downey’s Broadway debut “extraordinary” and urging fans to check it out.

“So lucky to witness my dear, brilliant friend Bob Downey and the great cast of ‘McNeal’ last night at the @lctheater,” he wrote at the time. “Outstanding! Go see if you can!!!”

Johnny Depp hails his ‘Dear, brilliant friend’ Robert Downey Jr.’s Broadway debut as ‘outstanding’

Besides Downey, McNealThe cast includes Brittany Bellizeare, Rafi Gavron, Melora Hardin, Andrea Martin, Ruthie Ann Miles and Saisha Talwar.

In May, Downey enthusiastically took part in the project, directed by Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher, via an Instagram post.

“I’m making my Broadway debut in a new play McNeal at the Lincoln Center Theater! I knew I wanted to do Ayad’s new play before I finished reading it, and then hearing that Bart was going to direct at the Beaumont Theater sealed the deal,” he wrote. “It’s been 40 years since I was last on the ‘boards.’ , but I hope to dust it off soon. McNeal is a timely and important story about the future of creatives, and I intend to do it justice.”

McNeal it is currently set for a limited release until November 24th.
