Minor Facts About Dean Graziosi
After our interview, I had planned to write a very different article, but Graziosi sent me such a persuasive letter that I decided to break with tradition and send it directly to the readers of my column instead. What Graziosi said on this subject really moved me. This is what Dean had to say as a well-known businessman who receives tens of thousands of comments and public reviews every week:
I ran into a bunch of people early in my career when I was a struggling entrepreneur trying to make my way out of the chaos, and they all told me I was crazy for trying to do my thing. They are known as a vocal minority.
In my small town in upstate New York over 20 years ago, when I was trying to break into my first real estate ventures on a shoestring budget and doing everything I could to raise money, I ran into an enemy who was as hard to beat. Like mine financial hurdle: The noisy minority. They showed up every time I went to the planning board for a public meeting about approval to build houses on the property that was subdivided.
Three or four members of the “vocal minority” used to attend public meetings in a town of 8,000, ready to fight. Some of the people who came just didn’t like me; They looked down on me because I grew up in their neighborhood. Any growth was inappropriate in his eyes. They weren’t interested in getting to know me, the type of person I am, or my challenges.
They just didn’t approve of what he was doing. Some people didn’t like that he made money in their neighborhood; one even said it out loud in a meeting. Others were concerned about logistics. Maybe because they didn’t want cars going through their yards.
Most of the locals welcomed the new families and homes, but remained silent despite their support. Unfortunately, most employers do not recognize the influence of the vocal minority. A multi-million dollar apartment project that I was trying to create in my small town that would help nearby schools, local businesses, and contribute a lot of tax revenue to this community was literally blocked by three people.
Their voices get even louder as we move forward a decade or two and usher in a world of constant communication via social media and the internet. For example, I saw over 3,200 supporting articles about what I do this week, including my business, books, education, and teaching others how to have a success mindset or work in the real world.
