Josh Gad Reveals He Is ‘Dealing with a Medical Emergency,’ Has to Sit Out Broadway Show

Josh Gad currently has a “medical emergency” that is forcing him to sit out the Saturday afternoon presentation of his Broadway play Gutenberg! Musical!

A few hours before the show, Frozen the voice actor, 42, shared with his followers in a video message posted on Instagram that he will be unable to perform due to a “medical emergency that I must attend to immediately.”

“I’d rather spend the afternoon with you all than in the hospital, but hopefully this will be resolved quickly and I’ll be back on stage with my friend [Andrew] Rannells as soon as possible,” Gad said.

He ended his message: “I love you guys, and again, I’m sorry to all of you who couldn’t wait to see me today, but I can promise you that you’re going to get an amazing performance with my amazing Russell on standby [Daniels]. I love you guys, see you soon.”

The Beauty and the Beast the actor elaborated a little in the caption about the timely nature in which his medical emergency needed to be addressed.

“Not news I’d like to share, but life happens,” Gad wrote before saying he would not be participating in Saturday’s afternoon show.

“I’m dealing with a medical emergency that, despite telling the doctors I wanted to wait until Monday to deal with it, they felt it needed to be dealt with immediately,” he continued. “So off to the hospital for (hopefully) quick treatment and then with any luck I’ll be back by tonight🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏.”

Disney star Josh Gad calls out ‘pathetic’ racist response to Halle Bailey’s ‘Little Mermaid’ trailer

Despite the unfortunate turn of events, Gad urged his fans to support his replacement, Russell Daniels, as he steps down as the Disney star.

“In the meantime, please help me wish @russelljdaniels the best of luck as he makes his Broadway debut as Bud! I know they will give you the show of your life!” he added.

Although Gad indicated that he will not be on stage for the afternoon show at 2pm local time on Saturday, it is unclear if he will return for the evening matinee at 8pm and every other performance after that.

Gad stars alongside Rannell, 45, in Gutenberg! Musical! The Broadway production, which runs through January 28, follows friends Bud Davenport (Gad) and Doug Simon (Rannells), who write an absurd musical about Johannes Gutenberg, the inventor of the printing press.
