Joshua Morrow is a proud papa.
In an interview with PEOPLE at Young and restless Celebration of 13,000. episode on October 25, the actor said that his son Crew had shown no interest in acting until recently, but is now starring in Brave and beautiful.
“I never dreamed that for him,” Joshua said. “This kid was a superstar lacrosse player. I thought he was going to play in college. I was going to fly around the country and be able to watch him. And when he told me he wanted to be an actor, I said, ‘Dude, it’s so hard. It’s not that easy.’ And the guy immediately got a job.”
“He’s very driven,” the father of three continued. “He writes the scripts. He really wants to be something in this medium.”

When asked if he had any role in getting Crew’s job, Joshua said no, but admitted he “probably got a longer look going into the room.” Still, he credited his son with landing the role.
“Me being who I am has no bearing on him,” he explained. “The kid is much better than I was when I was his age. I watch his scenes. He turns it around, hits them. He is awesome to watch. So I had nothing to do with it. I’ve helped him run his lines a few times and now he doesn’t want anything. He is his own man. I just have incredible confidence in him and he’s going to do it his way.”

Joshua said that of all his children, Crew was the “least receptive” to his help, describing him as being “in his own way”. Because of this, Joshua said it was a huge shock to see Crew starring on a daytime television show.
“I can’t believe it,” he admitted. “If he had told me a year ago, I would have said, ‘No way. There’s no way this kid is going to end up on a soap opera.’ And it is, and it kills him. I couldn’t be more proud of him.”
Going forward, Joshua said he’ll “trust his process” and won’t step on Crew’s toes despite now working in the same industry. He also revealed that the deal for the soap is for three years, so viewers will have a chance to get to know Crew better.
“Everybody has their stuff,” he said. “I only offer my help when I think you might accept it, because like I said, this kid came out of the womb like, ‘I’m going to do things my way and I need you to get out of my way.’ ”

As for him, Joshua said, thinking about his time Young and restless pointed out how lucky he was in his career.
“I can recount my first day minute by minute as it went,” he said. “Because from the moment I was hired, I knew that my life had changed in a way I could not have expected. My first day was just the most exciting thing because I was like, I didn’t know I could do this 30 years later and now I’ve been on the show for 30 years.”
“That meant a lot to me because the chances for this kind of job are not great,” he concluded. “They don’t like you. And so that day I just felt like I started my journey.”
