Julianne Hough is a big fan of her sister-in-law Hayley Erbert’s new hairstyle.
The 35-year-old dancer, actress and singer shared the news about Erbert, who is married to her brother Derek Hough, at the 2024 Tony Awards on Sunday, June 16. Julianne told PEOPLE that the dancer, who underwent an emergency craniectomy in December 2023, is doing “amazing” and that she loves her sister-in-law’s hair after the surgery. “They’re better than ever and I love that hair and I think she should have it keep,” said Julianne. “We’re in a huge fight because she wants to grow her hair out and I’m like, ‘You have to keep it. You look so French chic’.”
The Dancing with the stars alum added, “It’s not a real fight.”
Julianne, who made her Broadway debut in the play in 2022 POTUS, appeared on the red carpet at the 77th Tony Awards in a strapless red Ermanno Scervino gown with ruffle detailing. She accessorized with silver jewelry and her chin-length bob was tucked under the ends.

The star hosted “The Tony Awards: Act One” pre-show alongside actor Utkarsh Ambudkar and introduced the cast during the live telecast Illinois for their performance of “The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades is Out to Get Us.”

In December 2023, Erbert and Derek, who had married that August, were on the Symphony of Dance tour in Washington DC when So you think you can dance alum experienced a medical emergency. After the performance, Erbert was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma due to a ruptured blood vessel. She underwent an emergency craniectomy and later had cranioplasty surgery to replace a large part of her skull.

“It is with immense relief, gratitude and immense joy that I want to share that Hayley’s cranioplasty surgery was successfully completed as planned,” Derek, 38, shared on Instagram after his wife’s surgeries were completed.

Erbert, who used to have long hair, had to shave her head due to brain surgery. In the months that followed, she wore a cropped hairstyle while her hair grew back.

In April 2024, the dancer made her first post-surgery red carpet appearance to celebrate the official launch of Hulu on Disney+. Earlier in the day, she announced that she had been cleared to rejoin Derek on tour. She returned to shows that month before ending the tour in May 2024.
