Three days after Anna Delvey was eliminated from the Dancing with the starsJulianne Hough tells PEOPLE she remains “very neutral” on Delvey’s brief response.
At the Democracy Heroes event in New York on Friday, September 27, DWTS co-host tells PEOPLE what she thought of Delvey’s response to her elimination. The convicted fraudster told Hough in this week’s episode that she will take “nothing” from her experience.
“I’m always a big believer in grace and second chances and showing up,” Hough, 36, tells PEOPLE. “Also, it’s hard to come out on top in a competition.”
Delvy, 33, and her partner Ezra Sosa were eliminated along with Tori Spelling and her partner Pasha Pashkova.
“I also heard somewhere that she was actually funny and very literal about it, about her history,” Hough continues, apparently referring to Delvey’s controversial past. “So there was that.”

Delvey, whose real name is Anna Sorokin, became famous for posing as a wealthy German heiress and using her social position to defraud wealthy people, banks and hotels.
She was arrested in 2017, and two years later she was finally convicted of aggravated theft in the first, second and third degree and theft of services. She was sentenced to four to 12 years in state prison, fined $24,000 and ordered to pay restitution of about $199,000. Her sentence was shortened, and she was released in 2021 due to good behavior.
After her release, ICE took her into custody for violating the terms of her visa, and she has been under house arrest in New York ever since.
She told PEOPLE before the start DWTS season that she “had to petition ICE for permission to travel out of state.”
Hough also took to Instagram to share a clip from Tuesday’s telecast of the show, captioning the post: “There it is….. ICONIC 🤣☠️.”
Sosa, who was promoted to pro dancer this season, commented in her defense, writing, “I think she meant everything you would ‘physically’ take away.”
