An optical illusion on the FOURTH of July confused viewers a bit and sparked a debate among social media users.
The illusion, which was posted on Reddit, shows a variation of the American flag.

However, something seems to be wrong with the flag as the vertical lines appear slanted.
In addition, the red and white frames, which form the stripes of the flag, are scattered in such a way that the eye can be confused.
Reddit user FoxyJnr987 captioned the thread, “American flag, but it’s this weird optical illusion.”
The Reddit user simply shared the illusion, a digital image of the American flag, but offered no further details until another user asked, “What is the illusion?”
FoxyJnr987 later explained that the flag photo was an “illusion of a cafe wall”.
“I rotated it to look like stripes and made the black squares red,” said FoxyJnr987.
“Gray lines running vertically look slanted when they’re actually straight. They look better horizontal.”
According to Brain Connection, Cafe Wall Illusion tricks the brain into thinking that the lines in the image are not parallel, when in fact they are.
“The cafe wall illusion is believed to work because of the high contrast in the two different ‘bricks’.
“When interpreting images, our brains tend to ‘diffuse’ dark areas into bright areas, a function known as irradiance; this ‘movement’ is probably what causes the false distortion effect.”
Meanwhile, other users saw nothing wrong with the image.
One person commented: “All the lines on the flag are straight, not diagonal.”
“Thank you for making my eyesight worse,” wrote another.
A third user wrote: “They don’t look diagonally towards me, is my brain messed up?”
Meanwhile, you could be in the top 0.1 percent if you can find all seven differences in this brain teaser in less than a minute.
And if you can’t find the strange sofa in this puzzle within 30 seconds, then you’re not alone, but three out of five people can beat it.
