Alexis Mac Allister canceled out John Stones’ first-half strike but Liverpool did well to nullify City’s threat.

Jeremy Doku hit the post late on, but Erling Haaland was kept quiet by the youngster Jarrell Quansah.

Klopp praised the central defender after the game and also expressed his admiration for Joe Gomez.

And in the process, he called out England manager Gareth Southgate as he appeared to wonder why the defender didn’t get a call-up.

Klopp said: “Joe Gomez. Gareth, honestly??!”

Earlier this week, Klopp recommended Southgate take a look at Gomez, branding his versatility “wonderful”.

Klopp said: “I’m not standing here telling Gareth who he should pick.

“But you can get one player and have four positions covered. Wonderfully.”

He is also capable of playing in all positions across the back line, and could return to England with the Three Lions in need of a left-back given Luke Shaw’s injury.

Klopp claims Doku could have KILLED Mac Allister with a ‘karate kick’ as he aimed to dig out Mike Dean
