NewJeans is ready to conquer the world.
In light of the K-pop group’s upcoming appearance at the Billboard Music Awards, where they are nominated for four awards, they opened up about their rise to international stardom since their debut a year ago.
Members Danielle, Haerin, Hanni, Hyein and Minji “never imagined” that their music would reach fans on an “international level”.
“I remember when we first debuted and how the ‘Hype Boy’ challenge was trending for a while. Seeing people from overseas who knew about us or not, dancing to ‘Hype Boy’ was so surreal and definitely not expected,” Hanni, 19, speaks exclusively to PEOPLE.

Since their debut in July 2022, the K-pop group has made an effort to “return the love and attention” they have received from fans.
Minji, 19, adds: “I practice more to show better music and performances. I believe that accepting new challenges and changes requires constant effort and that trying different styles is important for personal development.”
