During our podcasting journey, there was no Duke football player we connected with as deeply as Kade Parmelly. It all started when we stumbled upon his official team photos after his transfer from Abilene Christian, and we immediately felt his colorful personality shine through. If you haven’t seen them, one photo in particular has become our favorite.
After our first podcast conversation with Kade, it became clear that he is more than just a guest; he was a real “pod friend”. His natural charisma was visible on the microphone, he lit up the room and charmed everyone around him. His larger-than-life personality left a lasting impression. We were even lucky enough to have him as our co-host last season and we unanimously agreed that he exceeded our expectations.
Kade was a devoted believer, who was not afraid to openly include his faith in his daily life. During his time at Duke, he actively participated in Bible studies and became involved in various faith-based activities. This resonated deeply among us, because one of our hosts is a pastor and we all share a strong faith.
In February of this year, Kade received the devastating news about the diagnosis of leukemia. It hit us hard because one of the sons of our hosts got the same diagnosis. Kade’s friends and family rallied, offering unwavering support. However, the toll of chemotherapy, as many can imagine, proved to be physically and mentally draining. After an extremely challenging week of treatment, Kade passed away peacefully on Friday, July 7th, to be reunited with his Lord and Savior.
A memorial service will be held in Abilene, TX this Wednesday at 11am. The family, who kindly allowed us to share this, will publish a more detailed obituary in the coming days, and we will provide a link to those interested. Plans are also underway to stream the service live, and we will share any relevant information as it becomes available.
What happened to Kade Parmelly?
Former Duke football offensive lineman, Kade Parmelly, has tragically passed away, as reported by Duke Football Talk. Parmelly, who had been battling leukemia since February, succumbed to the disease on Friday, July 7. His indomitable spirit and contribution to the sport will be remembered by his teammates, friends and family.
Joining Duke after transferring from Abilene Christian, Parmelly showcased his talent on the field, appearing in 12 games and even earning a start for the 2021 season. Prior to his time at Duke, he had already established himself as a respected player, captaining the team twice and receiving honorable mention All-Southland Conference honors at Abilene Christian in 2018.
News of Parmelly’s diagnosis earlier this year led to an outpouring of support from loved ones and the football community. However, the grueling nature of chemotherapy took its toll, physically and mentally. After an extremely challenging week of treatment, Parmelly passed away peacefully, leaving behind fond memories and a lasting legacy.
