Kaia Gerber Says Cindy Crawford Is a ‘Cool Mom,’ but Admits She ‘Embarrasses Me Constantly’ (Exclusive)

Cindy Crawford may be a world-famous supermodel, but to Kaia Gerber, she’ll always be “mom.”

During a chat at the Planet Omega show in New York, the mother-daughter duo opened up to PEOPLE about what it’s like for them to bond these days amid their busy schedules as fashion industry stalwarts.

Although Crawford and Gerber have worked on several campaigns together — one of the many being for OMEGA, the Swiss luxury watchmaker whose models are both global ambassadors — the pair make time for each other when they’re not on set, too.

“I feel like we’ve formed a really strong bond and friendship beyond just the mother-daughter dynamic, which has been so fun for me over the last few years,” Gerber tells PEOPLE from the Nov. 14 show.

“We went to Burning Man together,” Crawford chimes in, before the two begin to chat about the range of activities they enjoy doing when they’re not working.

“We just retired together… We both love to read,” Super models star lists, to which her daughter adds, “Yeah, it’s similar to talking about books we’re reading, sharing podcasts—”

“Theatre,” adds Crawford. Gerber agrees: “Yeah, let’s go see the theater together.”

And while they like to bond over similar interests, Gerber says her mom still knows how to embarrass her, just like any other mom would do to her daughter.

“She’s a cool mom and she still embarrasses me all the time,” admits Gerber. “But it’s good! It brings me back to earth… I probably embarrass her all the time, too.”

While the fashion-forward power duo knows how to have a good time off set, they’re sure to bring the fun (and laughs!) when they’re on the job, too.

“We had a lot of laughs on the red carpet,” reveals Gerber after posing with her mom for photos moments before talking to PEOPLE at the show. “So it feels more like I’m just working with a really good friend.”

Although talking to her mom, Gerber admits with a laugh, “But, maybe I’d complain a little more to you than to the other person, but I wouldn’t say anything different than that.”

Crawford makes it clear, “But I think when we’re working together, it’s no different than if I’m working with another professional. I feel like when I’m working with you, it’s not like, ‘Oh, I’m with my daughter. She’s also Kaia and has your place in the world.'”

Elsewhere in PEOPLE’s conversation with the mother-daughter duo, Gerber was asked which of Crawford’s iconic looks she would love to recreate one day, if she hadn’t already — to which she replied, “There are so many that I love and think are so iconic .”

As she began to name a few of her mom’s most memorable looks — like the red Versace dress she wore to the 1991 Oscars, as well as her iconic cut for a 1992 Pepsi ad — she came to a conclusion.

“It’s like some things are so good you don’t even want to touch them,” Gerber continued. “And I think in some of those moments I just say, ‘Leave them there,’ you know?”
