Football career of Kalidou Koulibaly
On 23 August 2012, Luzern of Switzerland defeated Genk 2–1 in the first leg of the UEFA European Championship play-off round. This is Koulibaly’s first match against Genk. Between 6 and 19 October 2013, he scored twice in two games. On 2 July 2014, he signed a five-year contract with Serie A club SSC Napoli for around £6.5 million.
He then headed home a goal against group leaders Juventus to help the visitors win 1–0 on 22 April 2018 at the Allianz Stadium. With 4 matches left, Napoli is currently only 1 point behind Juventus, while Juventus is still leading.
Italian Cup
On June 17, 2020, Koulibaly played in the Coppa Italia final against Juventus. After a draw, Napoli won 4–2 on penalties. Koulibaly has repeatedly said he wants to end his career at Napoli and that he will only leave if the club makes a business decision.
He was named Serie A Player of the Month in September 2021. On 24 November 2021, he played his 300th game for Napoli, a 2-1 Europa League defeat to Spartak Moscow.

On 16 July 2022, Koulibaly signed a four-year contract with Premier League club Chelsea. The fee is believed to be around £33 million. On 6 August, he played his first game for Chelsea, who beat Everton 1–0 in the title match. Koulibaly scored his first Chelsea goal on his home debut against Tottenham Hotspur on 14 August. He did it with a powerful volley in a 2-2 league draw.
His international career and FIFA 22
Koulibaly went on to face Juventus in the Coppa Italia final on June 17, 2020. After a draw, Napoli won 4–2 on penalties. He was a member of Senegal’s squad for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.
In May 2018, Koulibaly was named in Senegal’s 23-man squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. Koulibaly was then selected as a central defender in the 26-man squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
