Kapil Sibal is a famous Indian politician. He served the Indian National Congress (INC) for more than three decades before resigning on May 16, 2022. He also served as a federal minister. Kapil Sibal is also a Supreme Court advocate.

Kapil Sibal was born on 8 August 1948 in Jalandhar, Punjab (75 years; as of 2023). His zodiac sign is Leo. He was educated at St. John’s High School, Chandigarh. In 1964, he moved to Delhi. He entered St. Stephen’s College in Delhi to pursue his Bachelor of Laws degree. In 1969, after completing his LLB, he completed an MA in History at St. Stephen’s. He was admitted to the Bar in 1972. He even attempted the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) examination in 1973 and passed it, but he declined the offer. He founded his own company in 1973 and then went to the United States to study for a master’s degree in law at Harvard Business School in Cambridge. After completing his LLM in 1977, he returned to India and started practicing law. In 1989, he was named a senior lawyer. In 1989, he was appointed Solicitor General of India. He also served as President of the Supreme Court Bar Association three times (1995-96, 1997-1998 and 2001-2002).

In July 1998, he was elected to the Federal Council for the first time. He was nominated to the Bundestag because of the good image he had established over the years as a constitutional lawyer. On April 13, 1973, he married Nina Sibal. Nina serves in the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They have two sons: Amit Sibal and Akhil Sibal. They are also lawyers. Nina died in New York on June 30, 2000, after a long illness from breast cancer.

political career
Kapil Sibal’s political career began in 1998 when he was nominated as a Member of Parliament by the Indian National Congress (INC). From 2000 to 2002, he was appointed Secretary of the Congress Party. He was a member of the India Business Advisory Council. In August 2001, he was appointed as a member of the Internal Affairs Committee, and in 2002, he was appointed as a member of the Internal Affairs Committee. He was first elected to the Lok Sabha in 2004 and appointed as the Federal Minister for Science, Technology and Earth Sciences in the Manmohan Singh government. In 2009, he was re-elected to the Lok Sabha and appointed as the Federal Minister of Human Resource Development. On January 19, 2011, he was appointed Federal Minister of Communications and Information Technology. In May 2013, he was additionally charged by the Ministry of Law and Justice. On May 5, 2016, he was elected as a member of the Uttar Pradesh Federal Assembly. On May 16, 2022, he resigned from the Indian National Congress. On May 25, 2022, he submitted his nomination as an independent candidate for the Federal House elections; his candidacy was supported by the Samajwadi Party.

- In 2007, Kapil Sibal was accused of being involved in the Vodafone tax scandal. In April 2007, Vodafone encountered a tax dispute when it purchased Hutchison Essar Telecom services and incurred a shortfall of INR 11,000 crore. He is accused of seeking an out-of-court settlement with Vodafone.
- In 2011, Kapil Sibal said that the national exchequer faced zero loss in 2G spectrum and it did not put any pressure on the government. His remarks sparked a public outcry. Sibal eventually had to retract his statement.
- In 2011, while serving as Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology, he passed a bill that enabled the Indian government to monitor and regulate all content on the internet. The decision sparked massive protests. Kapil Sibal’s website was hacked by a hacker group called Hackers Anonymous, and his description was changed to call him “retarded.” The government quickly reversed the decision amid unrest and debate over free speech and internet freedom.
