Karti Chidambaram is an Indian politician and businessman. He is the son of Chidambaram, a famous Indian politician.

Karti Chidambaram was born on Tuesday, November 16, 1971 (52 years; as of 2023) in Madras (Chennai), Tamil Nadu. He received his primary education from Don Bosco College of Excellence, Egmore, Chennai. In 1993, he studied for a bachelor’s degree in business administration at the University of Texas at Austin in the United States, and in 1995 he was admitted to the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom to study for a bachelor’s degree in law.
He has enjoyed playing lawn tennis since he was a child. He played regularly and participated in many tennis tournaments and won many of them. Karti is the vice-president of the “Tamil Nadu Tennis Association”. He also served as the Vice-President of the All India Tennis Association.

- In April 2015, ‘Vasan Healthcare Group’, a company partly owned by Karti, was being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The company reportedly violated India’s foreign direct investment policy and provided illegal assistance to a Mauritian investment firm called Sequoia Capital India.
- In August 2015, the ED summoned him in connection with the Aircel-Maxis case.
- In December 2015, the education department and the income tax department raided his office in connection with the Aircel-Maxis deal. While investigating the Aircel-Maxis deal, they also found files related to the ‘INX Media’ deal on his CA laptop.
- In February 2016, the Herald reported on his involvement in various international business activities and transactions, many of which involved tax havens.
- In April 2016, the “New Indian Express” claimed that he owned the company “Advantage Strategy Consulting” through several representatives (Benami).
- On May 16, 2017, India’s Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) charged Karti Chidambaram with fraud, corruption and violation of India’s foreign direct investment policy.
- He was arrested on February 28, 2018, from the Chennai Airport by the Special Cell of the Economic Crimes Wing of the CBI. P. Chidambaram was accused of conducting multiple illegal transactions and receiving kickbacks from “INX Media” after he awarded INR 305 Crore FDI to INX Media.
- On October 11, 2018, ED seized many properties of Karti in India, UK and Spain. The Education Ministry said the properties were worth INR 540 million and were related to the “INX Media” money laundering case.
- In March 2024, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) charged him with receiving Rs. 50 lakh from Talwandi Sabo Power Limited, which is setting up a power project in Mansa, Punjab. The agency said the company hoped to regain access to Chinese visas through his father, then Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram. The investigating agency registered a money laundering case against Karti Chidambaram and others. On June 6, 2024, the Drillos Avenue Court granted him bail.
