Kate Hudson Reveals Why Lack of Romance in Running Point Was 'One of the Big Things' That Convinced Her to Join (Exclusive)

Mindy Kaling had exactly what Kate Hudson was looking for in her first TV show.

Hudson plays the newly appointed heir to the waves in Los Angeles, a fictional version of the Lakers, in Netflix’s Running point. The actress tells people that she has attracted the role-she inspired the real life President Jeanie Buss-because it is “a full, sincere account of women’s life than just in search of love.”

“Look, don’t get me wrong, I love Rom-com. I love when it comes to relationships,” says Hudson (45). “But to do a comedy set in such high roles, which refers to family dynamics-for me, [that] It’s just so much fun. ”

In fact, how little emphasis was put on a romantic relationship in the life of her character Isla Gordon was “one of the big things for me,” he says, elaborating on why he wants to join the show. “Not just everything in the romance.”

Still, Kaling, 45, continues: “Her character – and a lot of characters in this – it’s like, romance is not even in the first five things they are [most] He is worried about their life, and I’m not really used to writing it. The comedy of everything is largely what attracted Hudson to the show. “I wanted to do serial television and I wanted to do something comic,” she says. “I really wanted the first thing I did on TV to be what I love to do most, because if I do the series, I want to do it every day.”

“I just had this innate feeling. I was like,” I bet I’ll make this show, “he remembers.” We met and we had a great first meeting, and I just felt like I was in such a good hands. ”

Together with Hudson, Running point The stars of Scott Macarthhur, Drew Tarver and Justin Theroux as her brothers on the screen and the brand song as her chief of the best staff-friend friend, and Isla’s complicated family dynamics is another large part of the story.

“It’s so fun.
