Katie Holmes recently appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where she talked about her breakout role in director Ang Lee’s hit TV series The Ice Storm. She recalls the moment she went to Los Angeles for an internship. Holmes stated:
“It was also my second day in Los Angeles and my first audition. I know I’m lucky.”

Katie Holmes told Jimmy Fallon that when she went to New York to film The Ice Storm, she was 17 years old and thought:
“I mean, that’s exactly what I want to achieve. Great! And then I went home and filmed myself for a few auditions, but I got nothing. ‘Oh, that might be,’ I thought. You never know, maybe that’s all.”
She continued to say,
“But that’s okay because I said, ‘You know what? Okay. It’s been a great event, I can tell my grandchildren about it and they’ll be fine.” I thought, “Wow, that’s great.”
Katie Holmes said that at the time she wanted more work, but she shouldn’t be “greedy. The Ice Storm kicked off Holmes’s acting career, and she has played many notable roles in film and television. Holmes also discussed her upcoming film, Rare Objects, which she describes as a story about “women’s friendship and healing.” The film was co-directed by the co-writer and she herself played a key role in it. Alan Cumming and Julia Mayorga also played major roles. She also talks about her passion for theater and her new play, The Wanderers. She said she had a “wonderful” time performing on the show. It deals with topics such as family, marriage, and death.
