Kelly Clarkson’s ex-husband and manager Brandon Blackstock reportedly didn’t think his wife was “sexy” enough to appear on Vote as a coach, New York Post says the Grammy winner who argued in court last year.
In November, Blackstock was ordered to pay Clarkson $2,641,374 for illegally arranging deals as her manager that were supposed to be performed by a talent agent, a decision his legal team has appealed.
According to new court documents he collected Fastthe “Miss Independent” singer claimed Blackstock told her Vote was “looking for a more sex symbol type” and cited Rihanna as an example.

The media reported that Clarkson, 41, recounted the alleged conversation while testifying before the California Labor Commissioner, who then ruled in her favor regarding the payments she was owed.
Before Clarkson joined the NBC singing competition series in 2018, Blackstock, 47, reportedly told his wife that the network was looking for a “diverse” group of coaches and “had to have someone who was black.”
Clarkson also reportedly claimed that Blackstock said she was “too similar” to then-coach Blake Shelton to join the show.

The musician was asked by her lawyer, Ed McPherson, about her ability to recount the details of the alleged conversation with Blackstock, according to Fastto which she replied, “Well, a woman doesn’t forget when she’s told she’s not a sex symbol, so it sticks.”
In a November filing, according to documents obtained at the time by PEOPLE, Clarkson claimed that Blackstock secured her contracts with Vote, The Kelly Clarkson ShowNorwegian Cruise Line, Wayfair and Board Music awards and received royalties in return.
While Blackstock was adjudged not to have crossed the line as a manager with The Kelly Clarkson Show of the contract, according to the documents, the other four jobs were to be done by Clarkson’s team from the Creative Artists agency.

“Under the Talent Agencies Act (TAA), a manager, like any person without a talent agency licence, cannot secure or attempt to secure the employment of an artist,” the ruling said.
The documents state that Blackstock was paid a commission for each of Clarkson’s aforementioned appearances, including $1,983,155.70 for her contract as a coach at Vote$208,125 for a promotional deal with NCL, $450,000 for a collaboration with Wayfair and $93.30 for her multi-year deal as Board The music awards host — now he has to pay it all back to his ex-wife.
Clarkson and Blackstock were married for nearly seven years before she filed for divorce in June 2020, which was finalized two years later. The couple shares two children: daughter River Rose and son Remington Alexander. (Blackstock is also the father of a son, Seth, and a daughter, Savannah, from his previous marriage to Melissa Ashworth.)
