Kelly Ripa recalls the stormy situation!
During the episode Living with Kelly and Mark on Tuesday, July 2, Ripa, 53, walked viewers through a recent unexpected interaction she had with airport security while returning from Switzerland with her husband and co-host Mark Consuelos, 53.
After explaining that she always wears the same clothes at the airport to avoid triggering any detectors, she reveals, “yet I got a beep in Switzerland. Then I had to take off my shoes and I asked myself: ‘Why? Those are sneakers.’”
She continues: “But anyway, took off his shoes, he whistled again. I got lost, nothing came out.” He adds with a smile: “They searched me.”
Consuelos then jumps in, “I said check her again! Take her backstage.”

After the two share a laugh, Ripa continues her story.
“They searched me! What can I tell you, it was a gentle shakedown. They searched me and I said ‘go ahead’. Go all the way for it.’ We got to the second base and exchanged phone numbers for later.”
Consuelos notes that a similar situation happened to a fellow passenger on the way to Switzerland, recalling that “a young man had to be patted” in front of him.
He adds that the TSA employee explained to the man, “We’re going to have to touch you here and we’re going to have to touch your back.”
“Yes,” answered Ripa. “If you’re going to touch me from the front, I want it from the back. Don’t leave me in the lurch.”

The married talk show hosts previously documented their getaway to Switzerland on Instagram, including a photo posted by Ripa of the pair embracing at a table with the stunning backdrop behind them.
“We are a Swiss baby 🇨🇭🇨🇭,” she wrote in the description.
In the meantime, Riverdale alum shared a carousel of photos that reveal scenes from the couple’s boat trip, sightseeing and hanging out with their daughter Lola (23). The couple also share sons Michael, 27, and Joaquin, 21.

During the July 1st episode Living with Kelly and MarkRipa and Consuelos explained that the reason for their vacation was to visit Lola – who lives in London and has a British boyfriend – during her trip to Switzerland.
They noted that Lola goes there “quite a bit” and that they “totally get it” because it’s a “wonderful” place.
“Hats off to the people in Switzerland,” added Consuelos. “We’ve only been to one city, but it’s the cleanest. It’s so clean.”
