Kesha Teases First New Music Since Settling Dr. Luke Lawsuit: ‘First Day I’ve Owned My Voice in 19 Years’

Kesha is back with new music.

On Wednesday, the “Take It Off” hitmaker, 37, announced her comeback with a teaser of what appeared to be a new song. “Freedom, I’ve been waiting for you. Everything has changed now, we haven’t heard from each other for a while,” she sang in a clip shared on Instagram.

The singer previously teased the same lyric during a night out with Kyle Richards and Morgan Wade. As the trio waited for the valet after dinner, the pop star held up a cardboard sign that read, “Freedom, I’ve been waiting for you,” next to a heart.

“March 6th 2024 First day I own my voice in 19 years,” the singer wrote in an Instagram Story and X (formerly known as Twitter) post before adding, “Welcome.”

Kesha also directed fans to the new website and shared two more professional photos on Instagram of herself posing on a rock in a picturesque setting in a see-through white dress.

Kesha’s return to music comes after she caught on Magazine V for an interview published last month. The conversation comes just two months after she parted ways with labels Kemosabe and RCA Records, as well as Vector Management, following the conclusion of her legal battle with producer Lukasz “Dr. Luke” Gottwald in June 2023.

“I will say… to all my fans, to all my animals, this has been a ride. I will say there is a day – although I won’t say a day – but there is a day marked on my calendar when I’m free to release music,” Kesha said when asked what he wants to “put it out into the world”.

“So just know that she’s out here in the woods, writing and singing until four in the morning, fierce. I’m a wild wild woman out here. So just know that,” the musician, who released her latest LP Gag Order in May 2023, he added.

“I will say this: I’ve never felt happier, more excited, more at peace, and more purposeful in my entire life. And I feel like I’ve earned the right to be this happy. So be it…I’m loving every minute of what feels like a brand new and a very exciting chapter,” Kesha said of her new music.

This is Kesha’s first new music release since she and Gottwald, 50, agreed to settle his defamation suit out of court in June. The Grammy winner had sued Gottwald nearly a decade earlier, in 2014, accusing him of sexual, emotional and physical abuse.

Kesha previously sued Gottwald over claims he drugged and sexually assaulted her in 2005. In 2016, a judge dismissed Kesha’s claims. Gottwald again denied the allegations last year and wished her “well” in his 2023 statement.

At the time, Gottwald wrote, “While I appreciate Kesha again admitting that he can’t tell what happened that night in 2005, I am absolutely certain that nothing happened.”

“God only knows what happened that night. As I’ve always said, I can’t recount everything that happened,” Kesha wrote in a statement. “I look forward to closing the door on this chapter of my life and starting a new one. I wish nothing but peace to all parties involved.”
