News about Kevin Garnett
The Celtics’ late-season loss to the Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals was due to their lack of enthusiasm on the court, according to Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce. Although the Celtics were just five wins away from a championship, the Hall of Famer believes Boston should make it up to him in a big way next season.
On the latest episode of Showtime’s “Ticket & Truth” podcast, two legendary Celtics players opened up about how bad their former club was in Game 7.
“I noticed the C’s appearing in the first two minutes and I thought, ‘I don’t like that energy!'” It takes more than that to get you down. Garnett commented on his observations about the Celtics.
Garnett noted how Pierce became more intense before key games, arguing that there are “two types of P.” “P”, who was more zealous, “would pack up and go… Hey, let’s send a message to these [expletive] right here, okay? “That vibe was like, ‘Aw [expletive]gorilla tonight!’” According to Garnett, they missed it.
Pierce had similar thoughts about the Celtics’ performance in that contest. He believes more could have been done to contain Heat forward Caleb Martin, who averaged 19.3 points per game during the series and scored 26 points in Game 7 on 11-of-16 shooting.
Pierce pointed out that Martin should have been repeatedly assaulted. He continued to approach the dais. He did 3s. It falls to the ground, I would say. He goes to the bottom line, where I’m going to put him on his ass. I expected a fall. He was expected to take the hit.
As for basketball, Garnett believes the Celtics’ offense, particularly their 3-point shooting, has been their downfall. They had their two worst 3-point shooting performances of the season in Games 6 and 7, shooting just 30.3 percent from beyond the arc for the entire series.
Garnett stated: “I thought the Cs stayed on the long ball too long. “I think he didn’t get into the basket enough… Your approach to the hole and level of aggression will determine how many 3-pointers you get. Driven and [kicked] outside. In my opinion, they got away. Al Horford didn’t make many free throws or easy field goals. Such men demand those points.
Garnett and Pierce are not calling for any trades despite their criticism of the Celtics’ performance in Game 7 and throughout the series.
This is the procedure, according to Garnett. “To have great moments, you have to go through a little bit of pain.”
