Kim Richards' Family Hit a 'Breaking Point' amid Her Sobriety Struggles, Sister Kyle Richards 'Torn Apart' (Exclusive Source)

The Kim Richards family is at a loss when it comes to the former The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star’s ongoing struggle with substance abuse.

Earlier this week, Kim, 60, and her sister Kyle Richards were reportedly involved in an argument amid Kim’s renewed alcohol addiction.

A source now tells PEOPLE that the former reality star’s “alcohol addiction” is a constant source of conflict between her and her sisters, with the issue being especially difficult for Kyle, 55.

“It’s especially hard on Kyle, who has always been the breadwinner in the family,” the insider shares. “She goes out of her way to take care of Kim — and she’s actually funding Kim’s life, with Kathy [Hilton] — but you never know where the line is between helping and enabling.”

While noting that Kim is in a “very bad place right now,” the source says the family is trying to stay tight-lipped about her struggles.

“The family is very tight-lipped about the details, but from what little they’ve said, it’s clear they’ve reached another breaking point with her,” the source says, stressing that “this has happened before.”

“It’s the same cycle: chaos until some incident happens that puts Kim back on track, then a brief period of stability as they mend their relationship, then the drinking starts again, Kim makes excuses, Kyle begs for help, etc., etc.,” the source continues. .

Over the years, the reality star has been open about her struggles with alcohol addiction, and her journey to sobriety has even been documented on RHOBH.

In 2010, Kyle famously revealed that Kim was an alcoholic on the first season of the long-running Bravo show. A year later, the actress checked into rehab and then again in April 2015 after an arrest related to public intoxication. She left the Malibu treatment facility for her daughter’s wedding in May 2015, but returned two weeks later.

A source tells PEOPLE that Kyle is “irritated by everything” as they continue to work through their substance abuse issues as a family.

“She has the biggest heart,” the insider says of Kyle. “He loves his sister so much and will always love her, but he doesn’t know what else to do.”

According to TMZ, Kim and Kyle had an argument earlier this week over the former The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star recovering from alcohol addiction.

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to PEOPLE that police reported the incident that happened on Wednesday, Sept. 25, in the Encino area, where a source told PEOPLE that Kyle owns the home where Kim recently stayed.

The LAPD tells PEOPLE officers responded to “keep the peace” after a woman allegedly violated a restraining order. However, after the investigation, they found that there was no warrant and that no crime had been committed.

“Both parties were notified of the eviction process and officers were keeping the peace,” added officials, who could not confirm Kim and Kyle’s involvement in the fight.

Kim and Kyle’s manager did not respond to PEOPLE’s requests for comment.

According to TMZ, earlier this month Kim was staying at the Hilton Hotel until she was placed on 5150 psychiatric hold and taken to the hospital due to her “incoherent” behavior. After she was released, Kyle reportedly let Kim stay at her house to help her get back on her feet.

The media reported that the family had cut off all contact with Kim in the hope that the disconnection would help her regain sobriety.
