King Charles Steps Out for Second Day in a Row of Palace Meetings amid Cancer Treatment

King Charles leaves for the second day in a row on personal royal duty.

The king, 75, has largely been out of the public eye for cancer treatment, but the palace shared photos of the monarch on Wednesday during an audience at Buckingham Palace in London. He was photographed shaking hands with Samba Mamadou Ba, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, and Nourredine Yazid, Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria.

Both of them handed the monarch their predecessor’s letters of impeachment and their own letters of credence.

The palace also shared a photo of King Charles in an audience via video call with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Canada is part of the Commonwealth of Nations, which consists of 56 countries that were mostly once part of the British Empire, and the nation recognizes the British monarch as its head of state.

Royal family in turmoil as calls for more transparency grow: ‘There’s too much uncertainty’ (Exclusive)

King Charles’ royal audience on Wednesday followed his meeting with British Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday. It happened a day before Hunt released the government’s financial report to the British Parliament.

As the BBC reports, the meeting is part of the monarch’s constitutional duty as head of state. The monarch traditionally meets with the chancellor the day before the budget is presented, but it is usually held privately, the paper reported.

King Charles has been primarily staying at the royal family’s Sandringham estate since the palace revealed he had been diagnosed with cancer. However, he traveled to London several times for treatment and appointments. He was also pictured with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in February.

While the details of King Charles’ cancer diagnosis and Kate Middleton’s abdominal surgery remain undisclosed, there are growing calls for transparency within the royal family.

“Everyone is feeling anxious about the uncertainty, and there is too much uncertainty surrounding the monarchy right now,” royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith tells PEOPLE exclusively in this week’s cover story.

“Even though he revealed he had some kind of cancer, that did nothing to quell speculation about how seriously ill he might or might not be,” says Bedell Smith. “It does the monarchy no favors. He is the head of state and there are constitutional implications.”

“The King has shown compassion for Australians affected by recent natural disasters, just as Australians have shown compassion and support for the King following his cancer diagnosis,” continued Albanese, 61. “The King, Queen and members of the Royal Family are always welcome in Australia. My government is working with the states and territories on options for a possible royal visit.”
