“I consider myself lucky to have a spouse who understands and supports my work. When I go abroad for a month or work 12-hour shifts that end at 3am and require a ride home, my husband is always there for me, cheering me on from the sidelines. The key is to have a strong support system.”
KJ and her boyfriend are friendly and respect each other. KJ’s work life is quite active as he navigates the hustle and bustle of the NBA world as a reporter. Covering more than 80 NBA games in 25 weeks requires a lot of late nights, travel and sleep deprivation. Motivation and obstacles
Needless to say, the journalist has overcome several obstacles to get to this point in her profession. Being from Canada, KJ found it difficult to adjust to the reporting world in the United States. She was also fired from her full-time position at the Toronto Star early in her career.
She describes her dismissal as the most difficult period in her life, which forced her to do some soul-searching. On the bright side, the event turned out to be a blessing in disguise for her. After that, she would continue to work as a full-time freelancer, which led to additional opportunities and contacts, advancing her career.
