Knifeman pulled his vehicle through obstacles before threatening the guards in the neglected army barracks, police said.
Officers ran at the reports of a man who tried to enter the Kasarna Omer in Aldershot at about 4.30pm yesterday at about 4.30pm.
The man allegedly walked through the barriers before getting out of the car, shouting at the guards and damaging the outside of the car with a knife.
Police said the team to disposal of explosive office (EOD) also attended the comment the man had given.
The strength confirmed that the attack is not currently treated as a terror.
The 54-year-old man was arrested on suspicion that he had a knife/sharp pointed article in a public place and criminal damage.
He remains in custody at the time, police said.
A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary said: “An investigation has been launched and inquiry is an investigation to establish full circumstances.”
Police spokesman Hampshire said: “We were invited at 4:30 pm on Saturday to report that the man tried to enter the Kasar St. Omer in Aldershot.
“It was announced that the man was going through the barriers before leaving the car, shouting at the guards and with a knife, damaging the outside of the car.
“The police attended and arrested a 54-year-old man without a fixed residence on suspicion that he had a knife / sharp pointed article in a public place and criminal damage.
“At this point he remains in police detention.
They added: “An investigation has been launched and inquiry is an investigation to determine full circumstances. At this point, it is not treated as an incident related to terrorism.”
A spokesman for the Ministry of Defense said: “The incident is engaged in the Hampshire police.”
