Kourtney Kardashian Finally Opens Up About 'Super Rare' Fetal Surgery That Left a 'Hole in the Amniotic Sac'

Kourtney Kardashian Barker talks about a terrifying moment in her life.

During the season 5 premiere The Kardashians, the mother of four, 45, opened up about the emergency fetal surgery she had last summer before baby Rocky Thirteen was born. Kardashian Barker describes how she had a scan at home just before husband Travis Barker, 48, left on his Blink-182 tour.

“The doctor that’s going to come to the house to do the scan is a high-risk doctor, really detailed and thorough in looking for everything,” Kardashian Barker explains. “And something caught his eye where he wanted me to see a couple of specialists and I had to go into fetal surgery where they do surgery on the baby, which was scary.”

Kardashian Barker says she was at home the night before the surgery, which she admits was “stressful.” At the time, Barker was out of the country and flew home for surgery.

“The timing was amazing. It kind of saved everything,” says Kardashian Barker. “I’m just so thankful that, you know, how everything played out and for the doctors that really helped make the best decisions that really saved our baby.”

“[The] the doctor said, ‘That was trauma, and I want you to take a second and know that it was really traumatic,'” the mom of four remembers.

In the confessional, Kardashian Barker says she relied on her “superpower” to get through the stress of the surgery.

“There is some superpower that I have to really calm down in emergency situations. And then when we left, I said, ‘Okay, I could take a deep breath. I could cry. I could take it out,’ she explains.

Speaking about her decision to share her experience on social media, Kardashian Barker says she’s happy to post about the surgery so others can learn from her experience.

“They were so thankful that I posted about it because they said so many people don’t feel comfortable, they even tell their friends or their family members because they think, ‘Did they do something wrong or different?’ ” says Kardashian Barker.

“But my doctor says, ‘There’s nothing you did wrong, it’s not age related. It’s like a super rare thing happened.’ But then I thought, after this happened, I was like this is a miracle and I’m going to be super positive.”

After the surgery, Kardashian Barker says she felt much better.

“I feel good. But I also felt good. So I mean, yeah, if I don’t feel movement for like five minutes, I’m like shaking it because of the emergency fetal surgery I had to have,” she says.

“Now I’m mostly on bed because there’s a hole in the amniotic sac where they had to go for surgery. So I can’t drive, I can’t stand for more than 20 minutes. I really don’t leave the house.”

New episodes The Kardashians drop Thursdays at 12 a.m. ET on Hulu.
