Kourtney Kardashian Was Once Stung by a Scorpion that Hid in Her Bikini Bottoms

While in college, Kourtney Kardashian was stung by a scorpion that took up residence in her bikini bottoms.

Fortunately, she didn’t wear them — she washed them. But, she says, the experience was still “traumatizing.”

In the new episode The KardashiansKourtney, 45, shares her memory with best friend Simon Huck, who interviews her at Target as she promotes the in-store launch of Lemme, her line of all-natural supplements.

“What’s that crazy fact about you I I don’t know?” he asks Kourtney as she lies in a Target shopping cart.

“In college I was cleaning bikini bottoms hanging in the shower and there was a scorpion. And it stung my finger,” she tells him.

“It was traumatizing.”

In 1998, Kourtney began earning her bachelor’s degree at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. She later transferred to the University of Arizona, where she graduated in 2002 with a BA in Theater Arts and Spanish.

Scorpions are native to both Texas and Arizona — and Arizona is home to the bark scorpion, the only North American scorpion “dangerous to humans,” according to the University of Arizona Health Sciences.

“There are other species of scorpions in the Southwest that can sting you, causing pain, skin irritation or swelling,” the school explains, but only scorpion venom can cause symptoms that range from mild to severe. Kourtney did not specify the type of scorpion that bit her.

Arizona poison control centers receive about 20,000 calls a year about scorpion stings, the school reports, sharing that this is likely much lower than the actual number of people stung, as most do not require medical attention.

But in Kourtney’s case, she had to seek treatment.

“I had to go to the hospital,” she told Huck, adding, “If you’re allergic to scorpions, they inject you with goat blood.”

Not really—but the blood of goats (and other animals like horses and sheep) is often used to make anti-venom serums, according to Smithsonian.

“An animal, such as a horse or a goat, is injected with a small amount of poison. Antibodies released by the animal’s immune system to fight the harmful poison are later collected by bleeding,” the outlet explains.

“The blood serum or plasma is then concentrated and purified into a pharmaceutical-grade antidote.”

New episodes The Kardashians drop Thursdays at 12 a.m. ET on Hulu.
