- When Kartikeya saw his father’s interest in cricket, he decided to become a cricketer. One day, as he sat in front of the television watching a cricket match, he saw his father’s smile. That day he decided to become a cricketer and see the smile on his father’s face. His father attended the first game of Kumar’s unit, which installed a projector at the police station. In an interview, his father said that when Kumar took the first wicket in the IPL against Rajasthan Royals, his staff were very happy and started hugging him.

- Kartikeya left home at the age of fifteen and came to practice at an academy in Delhi. He used to work in a factory near Ghaziabad, 80 kilometers away from the college, to support his living expenses. After working at the factory in the evening, he would often walk home instead of taking the bus or car to save money on buying cookies.
- After hearing Kumar’s story, his coach Sanjay Bhardwaj decided to take care of Kartikeya’s expenses. He even offered to let him stay in his house and provided him with a chef’s room. After Kumar started living with Sanjay, one day the chef served him lunch and he started crying because he hadn’t had lunch in a year. In an interview, Kumar spoke about his coach and said:
My husband treats me like his own son. I’ve been with him for six years. He is responsible for every cricket expenditure. I was playing in Delhi at that time. I also participated in the competition, but during the selection, I was not selected. Then sir told me, “You should go to Madhya Pradesh”. I arrived at Shahdol, where I participated in trials and practice matches and was selected for the first time in the Under-23 national team as a substitute. “
