Kyle Bukauskas News

This year marks a turning point for Kyle Bukauskus. He is currently in his eighth year of broadcasting from his Stittsville home as the NHL on Sportsnet Reporter joins us. Bukauskas is also getting married and, most significantly, is approaching his 30th birthday.

Since a large portion of the last ten years were spent on hockey’s glitziest broadcast stage, it’s surprising that the person is still under 30. But for the Campbell River, British Columbia, native, who has already had a more illustrious career than most, not to mention several lives’ worth of incredible NHL experiences and memories, that is just how it is.

One of those people who is just inherently adept in front of the camera—calm, fluid, and likeable—Bukauskas has been a quick learner in the business. It’s almost as if the camera and a large TV audience aren’t even there.

In many ways, he is emulating his present coworker, Ron MacLean, a Western Canadian who is also polished, amiable, and professional. And at a very young age, both men jumped into the Hockey Night in Canada fray. When MacLean took up the host role for the 1986–87 NHL season, he was in his mid–twenties.

Making a successful profession can be difficult at any age because the traditional broadcast workforce is in such change, is always changing, and is frequently getting smaller. The idea of becoming a broadcaster was fair, but not as lofty as Kyle’s early professional aspirations.

As a young child, Bukauskas admitted, “Of course, I dreamed of playing in the NHL, but as you get a little older, that starts to evolve.” “After that, I wanted to be an actress for a very long time. For instance, I adored Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell, and Jim Carey. Additionally, the mere thought of having others laugh gave me great joy.

“Whether it was seeing Jay and Dan on TSN or Don Taylor on Sports Net out west, every morning doing an important loop, it just felt like that was the coolest job in the entire world,” Bukauskas recalled. There was a humorous element, like the fun they were having with it. They spoke about sports and were entertaining. I believed that position to be ideal. So that’s where my passion in this sector really initially began to take off. I would not exchange any of the detours I took to get here for the world. There have definitely been some along the way.
