Kyle Richards and Mauricio Umansky have shown the ups and downs of their relationship on Bravo since 2010, but the 27-year-old husband and wife found it particularly difficult to get on camera last season as they struggled in their marriage.
In a candid Instagram posted ahead of the Season 13 premiere on Wednesday, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills The star admitted that this latest round of filming was “challenging to say the least”.
“Tonight! Season 13 begins. 13 years… Here we go again. Every season always brings surprising twists. This season more than ever,” Richards, 54, wrote.
“I normally isolate myself when I’m struggling,” she admitted, “so navigating this time of my life while the cameras were rolling was challenging, to say the least.”

She then shared that it helped that she and her co-stars enjoyed “a lot of fun times” together during filming.
“Ultimately, that’s what keeps me coming back year after year. That and my relationships with the people who do RHOBH. Cast and crew,” she added. “So now it’s time to sit back and watch (and relive these moments — good and bad).”

Back in July, a source told PEOPLE that Richards and Maurico, 53, had separated but were still living together, adding, “They have remained amicable as they figure out what’s next for them and their family.”
The couple later issued a joint statement on Instagram addressing the news of the split, sharing that they had faced the “most challenging” year of their 27-year marriage. “Regarding the news that came out about us today… All claims of a divorce are false,” the statement read. “However, yes, we have had a difficult year. The most challenging in our marriage. But we both love and respect each other very much.”
“No one was wrong. While we are in the public eye, we ask that we be able to deal with our issues privately. While it may be fun to speculate, please do not create false stories to fit into a further corrupt narrative,” they continued, thanking people for their love and support.
Mauricio Umansky says he’s ‘taking it one day at a time’ with Kyle Richards — but ‘we’re both happy’
Shortly after, Bravo’s Andy Cohen confirmed the shoot for RHOBH season 13 ended before the news of Umansky and Richards’ divorce, but the cameras later came back on.
“This will be included in the next season Beverly Hills in some way, shape or form, that’s all I’m going to say,” Cohen, 55, said Radio Andy.

Last month, Umansky broke the news about his marriage to Richards, revealing that the couple were “not separated.”
“We’ve been going about our business, kind of, super quietly and internally, just our own issues,” he explained of his real estate company The Agency’s Red Mic podcast. “I mean, certainly, we are not separated. We are not divorced at this time. We are none of those things.”
He said the two are “still dealing with their marriage” and are simply going through a rough patch. “It’s been an amazing 26 years and it’s been a tough year,” he shared. “You know, Kyle and I are blessed because we’ve actually had 26 years where we haven’t had a bad year and I know most marriages have bad months, bad weeks [and] bad years.”

Earlier this month, in another update, Umansky told PEOPLE that they are in fact separated, but “not throwing in the towel” just yet.
“We have a bit of a difficult situation,” he said. “She and I are separated right now, but we’re not throwing in the towel. We’re not saying it just to say it. We’re not actually throwing in the towel yet.”
He also admitted that it was difficult for Richards to navigate this very personal situation in the public eye. “My wife is being watched so intensely and it’s really not fair. She’s just a person. She’s an amazing person, she’s my best friend and she doesn’t deserve to be judged so much for everything she does,” he said.
Umansky asked fans to give the couple time to work things out, promising to provide further updates.
“We promise to keep you posted,” he said. “We are not hiding anything from you.”
For her part, Richards said during an Amazon Live session in August that she and Umansky “care about each other a lot,” noting that their entire family had just returned from a summer vacation in Italy together.
However, she refused to share any details about the status of her marriage, saying it was “too much to deal with at this time.”
