Kylie Minogue Says She’s Enjoying the ‘Freedom’ of Being Single: ‘Some Romances I Maybe Could Have Done Without’

Kylie Minogue embraces the single life!

The Grammy-winning musician, 55, revealed her current philosophy on love in a new interview with Mirror ahead of her performance at the BRIT Awards next weekend.

“Well, I’m single and I’m enjoying this freedom,” she told UK. “I think we can make different decisions at this time than at other times. I guess, don’t be afraid… I am, definitely.”

The Australian pop star, who is set to both perform and win the Global Icon Award at the BRITs on Saturday, added that there are some romances from her past that she would happily “do without”.

“There are some romances that I could have done without, but it’s all part of what makes us human and our understanding of everything,” Minogue said.

“I’m trying to think of something great to say, but hey, you fall in love. What can you do? And you live and you learn. I don’t know what I know anymore.”

Minogue just finished winning her second Grammy this month for best pop dance recording for her hit “Padam Padam.” After her win before the show, she spoke with E! Live from the Red Carpet host Laverne Cox, sharing her message to the queer fans who have shown her love over the years.

“I wanted to say thank you for being there for me for such a long time, through thick and thin,” Minogue said. “We ride the highs, the lows and the in-betweens, and knowing that we have each other’s backs and this feels like the beginning of the next era.”

Minogue was announced as the winner of the 2024 award last month Board Women in Music Awards, where she’ll be able to share her gratitude even more after taking home the Icon Award at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles on March 6.

The ceremony — which will see Minogue recognized alongside Maren Morris, Ice Spice, Charli XCX, Young Miko, Victoria Monét, NewJeans, TEMS and Luís Sonza — will celebrate the musician following the release of her 16th studio album, 2023. Tension.

Talking to PEOPLE of the album last year, Minogue said she “didn’t even know I was going to fully commit to a new album” after the 2020s Discothequebefore deciding to “just go in and have fun” with the latest project.

“I remember a few years ago I was in a lot of interview situations where I was asked, ‘What age do you think is still okay to be in pop music or to be sexy in pop?’ It was really embarrassing and I felt like I had to justify my presence there,” Minogue said in September of her decades in the industry.

“So what’s happening now very organically, I’m talking about it with you because it happened. I wasn’t out there flying that flag,” the star continued. “Of course, this is a great moment for me – but it’s a great moment for other artists, especially women, who have this kind of prejudice or bias against them. So, like I said, I wasn’t going to do it. I was also the youngest child where I had to fight to be heard or just took up my space.”

The 2024 BRIT Awards are broadcast live from London’s O2 Arena on March 2 on ITV1 and ITVX.
