LADY Gabrielle Kingston’s husband died from a “traumatic head wound”, an inquest heard.

Thomas Kingston, 45, was unexpectedly found dead on Sunday while visiting his parents for lunch.

It was discovered in an outbuilding at his family’s home in the Cotswolds.

In tragic events that left the royal family in shock, Thomas locked himself in the building while his father went to walk the dogs.

After 30 minutes, Thomas’ father, Martin, had to force his way in and found his son’s body.

An inquest which opened today at Gloucestershire Coroner’s Court has sadly revealed Thomas’ cause of death.

The financier died of a “traumatic head wound” and was found with a gun near his body.

Senior Coroner Katy Skerrett said on Friday: “Mr Kingston was visiting his parents’ home in the Cotswolds.

“On February 25, 2024, he had lunch with his parents. The father went out to walk the dogs.

“On returning Mr Kingston was not at home and after approximately 30 minutes his mother went to look for him.

“His father forced his way into the locked building when no one could get an answer.

“He found Mr. Kingston dead with a catastrophic head injury. A gun was present at the scene.

“Emergency services were called. Police are confident the death is not suspicious.”

Coroners performed an autopsy on Thomas on Wednesday.

Ms Skerrett adjourned the inquest until a date to be fixed.

The inquiry was attended by Laura Sullivan, the press secretary of the royal household.

Miss Sullivan did not comment.

No funeral plans have been announced yet.

The company is said to be still coping with the sudden death with tributes pouring in from the royal family, including King Charles and Queen Camilla.

Thomas became part of the royal family when he married Lady Gabriella, daughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, in 2019.

A statement on behalf of Lady Gabrielle and his parents Martin and Jill Kingston said: “It is with the greatest sadness that we announce the death of Thomas Kingston, our beloved husband, son and brother.

“Tom was an extraordinary man who lit up the lives of all who knew him.

“His death has come as a great shock to the whole family and we ask that you respect our privacy as we mourn his passing.”

Buckingham Palace said the royal family was “grieving a beloved family member”.

Although Lady Gabriella is not an employed member of the family, she and Mr. Kingston’s family are supported by the royal household.

Before marrying into the monarchy, Thomas survived a suicide bombing in Baghdad that killed 22 people.

Thomas’ job was to mediate the conflicts in Iraq and he was said to have had countless near-death experiences.

He and his wife were last pictured at London’s Shakespeare Celebration at the Grosvenor House Park Lane Hotel on Valentine’s Day.

Thomas and Lady Gabriella beamed as they posed for the cameras with their arms wrapped in love.

The couple both wore blue and black and had smiles from ear to ear as they walked the red carpet.

And friends who saw Thomas and Lady Gabriella last week claimed the pair seemed “happy and chatty”.

A close friend told MailOnline: “They seemed as happy and positive as ever.

– Ella was particularly talkative.

Another friend said: “It’s absolutely shocking. None of us saw it coming.

“I can’t understand it.”

Who was Thomas Kingston?

Thomas worked in frontier market investments and was a director of Devonport Capital.

He was once described as “the most desirable man in London” and previously dated Pippa Middleton in 2011 – after she split from cricketer Alex Loudon.

Thomas graduated from the University of Bristol with a degree in economic history, writes The Telegraph.

He worked in the Department of Diplomatic Missions of the UK Foreign Office, and for almost three years he worked in Baghdad as a project officer for the Iraq Institute of Peace.

His job was to mediate conflicts in Iraq, and he even helped negotiate the release of hostages.

Thomas then moved into finance, working as an equity analyst for global asset management firm Schroders.

He was the director of Voltan Capital Management until April 2017.

In September 2018, it was announced that Thomas had become engaged to Lady Gabriella Windsor.

They got married on May 18, 2019 in the chapel of St.

Thomas Kingston died on February 25, 2024 at the age of 45.

Gloucestershire Police said they were not treating Thomas’ death as suspicious.

The King and Queen paid tribute to Thomas this week.

Their statement read: “The King and Queen have been informed of Thomas’ death and join Prince and Princess Michael of Kent and all those who knew him in mourning the loss of a beloved family member.

“Their Majesties especially send their sincerest thoughts and prayers to Gabriella and the entire Kingston family.”
