Matilda the Musical, based on Roald Dahl’s novel, is now available to view on Netflix. The musical, directed by Matthew Warchus, stars Alisha Weir, Lashana Lynch, and Emma Thompson in important parts. While Weir plays the eponymous Matilda Wormwood, Thompson plays the major antagonist and principal of Crunchem Hall, Miss Agatha Trunchbull. Lynch’s role is Miss Jennifer Honey in the meanwhile.
Dennis Kelly wrote the script for the film, which is a new spin on the Tony and Olivier Award-winning Broadway musical (2011). The description for Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical, according to the streaming service, reads:
“Matilda, a remarkable child with a bright intellect and a creative imagination, dares to stand up to her tyrannical parents and head teacher in order to rewrite her tale with miraculous outcomes.”
To be sure, Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical was released theatrically on Friday, December 9, 2022, making $19.7 million worldwide.

Everything you need to know about Lashana Lynch’s part in Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical.
Lashana Lynch plays Miss Jennifer Honey, a kind-hearted teacher who encourages Matilda to fantasize, in Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical. Miss Honey, Miss Trunchbull’s niece, and Crunchem Hall teacher, is noted for her kind nature and shyness. Miss Trunchbull became Miss Honey’s principal caregiver when her father, Magnus Honey, died in his forties under unknown circumstances. According to Matilda (the book), Miss Trunchbull despised her step-brother-in-law Magnus and considered murdering him. Dahl provides no additional reason for his death in the novel, which authorities rule out as a suicide.
Miss Honey, who had seen Miss Trunchbull’s oppression firsthand throughout her youth, developed pity for Matilda and began caring for the small kid. She was the only adult who recognized Matilda’s high IQ and encouraged her to study and pursue other intellectual interests. Miss Honey ultimately adopts Matilda in the book, and in the 1996 picture Matilda, she becomes the Principal of Crunchem Hall Elementary School. Her father, Magnus, was a distinguished doctor, but her mother’s name is unclear.
Magnus needed someone to look for Miss Honey when her mother died when she was two years old in 1969. Miss Trunchbull, her mother’s step-sister, invaded her life and turned it into a living nightmare. Trunchbull seems to have put up a front in front of Miss Honey’s father so that he was unaware of the torment Miss Honey was subjected to. Miss Honey wanted to tell Magnus about it, but she was terrified of Miss Trunchbull.
Miss Trunchbull received Magnus’ riches and property after his death, leaving a 5-year-old Miss Honey to fend for herself. Fortunately, she was able to flee the dictatorship and began living in a modest hut in the woods. Years later, she was hired as a teacher at Crunchem Hall.
Is Miss Honey a lesbian?
Several hypotheses imply that Miss Honey’s character was a lesbian since she didn’t have any males in her life and also because she lived in a hut in the woods, although Dahl never says. Miss Honey was a lesbian icon for many 20-year-olds, according to Lashana Lynch, who played the role in Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical.
She told EW while promoting Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical:
“I had no idea until I read some remarks on social media and thought, ‘Oh my my, this is a surprise to me.’”
Meanwhile, the British actress, who was most recently featured in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and The Woman King, will appear in a Bob Marley biography. The widely anticipated biopic, sponsored by Paramount Pictures, will cast her as Bob Marley’s wife, Rita Marley.
