Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda are still working 9 to 5!
The former cast members of the film (who later reunited for the Netflix series Grace and Frankie) gathered once again for the premiere of the documentary in 2022 He still works 9 to 5. The new film celebrates their 1980 hit starring Dolly Parton and “explores why inequality in the workplace has never been a laughing matter 40 years later,” according to the official synopsis.
In addition to serving as the official Hollywood premiere and screening of the documentary, the event on Wednesday, May 29, honored Tomlin, 84, Fonda, 86, and Parton, 78, as pioneers for women’s equality by the ERA Coalition Forward, as reported Deadline.
Fonda is dressed in white pants and a matching blazer, adorned with large earrings and bright red lipstick. Tomlin wore a black pantsuit and a black and white patterned cardigan.
Although Parton was unable to attend the Los Angeles event in person due to a prior commitment in Nashville, according to Deadline, the outlet reported that she would send a video message in her place.

Jane Fonda Talks About Playing Dolly Parton in ‘Grace and Frankie’: ‘It’s More Than Perfect’
A story of sisterhood and solidarity, 9 to 5 it starred Fonda, Tomlin and Parton as Judy Bernly, Violet Newstead and Doralee Rhodes, three women who take revenge on their sexist boss (the recently deceased Dabney Coleman) in a corporate office.

Back in 2018, Fonda revealed that she, Parton, and Tomlin were planning to make 9 to 5 sequel, but Parton explained Party tonight the following year they abandoned the idea after further consideration.
“I don’t think we will do a sequel,” she said then. “We were never able to get a script where it was different enough from the first one, and this one turned out so well.”

While no plot details are yet available for the project in development, Oscar-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody (Juno, Jennifer’s Body, Lisa Frankenstein) writes the screenplay for the film.
